If TF4 doesn't hit that then we will have the first year since 1980 that at least one movie doesn't adjust to 275m by Oct.

Dragon 16.5-18,to get to say 19-20 it will have to have very strong evenings compared to normal it's not entirely out of the ? but not thinking it will atm22J 23-25 anything 25+ like Dragon require huge eveAs for anything else can't be fucked working it out atm

How bad would it be if Dragons ends up getting even LESS than Rth's current numbers? :ph34r:

To be fair, I think the main problem with Dragon 2 (and by extension, Kung Fu Panda 2) isn't so much the competition they faced but the fact that the marketing (especially the ads) didn't make either movie stand out as a major event. They just got lazy and assumed that audiences would turn out based on goodwill alone. Which is kind of a difficult thing to prove but eh.

 

I will not consider a $50M opening a disaster though. That's still an increase from the first movie. And I mentioned this before, but I really think it's going to benefit from being released in a hilariously barren summer in terms of kids fare, so I'd wait and see before writing it off completely.

 

Opening to $50m could lead to match the original. It certainly would be grossing more than KFP2 and not declining.

 

But will be a great disappointment for the people at DWA. The dude Katzenberg stated he wants Dragon 2 grossing 1 billion WW. Lol

I think this movie will have fantastic legs throughout the Summer even with a 50M OW. 

 

Ted 

OW - 54M ($218M DOM)

 

Hangover 1 

OW - 44M ($277M DOM)

 

Gravity 

OW - 56M ($274M DOM) 

 

I know HTTYD 2 is a sequel, but it doesn't much competition and it has stellar reviews. Plus the fact that they aged the characters after 4 years makes me think that this film won't behave like a sequel would, but as a stand-alone film.

Pixar, like DreamWorks haven't been on form for a while so i hope they can make a comeback with Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur next year

Inside Out will deliver, I believe.Good Dinosaur...Ok, yes, Inside Out will save us.

I'm sure he meant the franchise in total.Yeaaaaah...that's what he meant.

I mentioned this in another thread but Katzenberg needs to lower his expectations, not every animated film can be the next Shrek or Frozen.
