Weekend Estimates | TF4 - 100M (Paramount sticking to 100M for the Wknd Est)| More Numbers on Page 1

Recommended Posts

Yeah, there is no way it holds that well today, unless they find another outlandish reason to keep it above the mark.

* Note: Revenge of the Fallen's weekend gross fell $3 million short of Paramount's Sunday estimate, which would have put the five-day opening at $198.2 million. Though shy of $200 million, it would have still ranked second among the all time five-day starts. However, Paramount revised its grosses from Wednesday and Thursday upward, and that's what pushed the total past $200 million. Wednesday went from $60.6 million to $62.0 million, and Thursday went from $28.6 million to $29.1 million. Paramount reported that the differences came from unreported showings from the movie's midnight openings on Wednesday night, which went from the previously reported $16 million at around 3,000 theaters to $16.8 million at close to 3,300 theaters, as well as late reports from institutional IMAX locations and theaters in Puerto Rico and some Caribbean islands (which the studio counts in its domestic numbers), which accounted for $1.1 million of the difference.

Never forget.

The DOFP hold is decent, all things considered. With dollar theaters, 230 will happen, but X3 will stay as the #1 dom of the franchise. :(

Waiting for OS update, to see it as the #1 movie WW of 2014 - for another week or two.

We can't tell that from it's first week, surely.

Plus it only makes a lot in China and so so everywhere else, you need more than 1 market to reach a billion.

It'll hit a billion.  It has huge openings in places like Russia as well.  300 mill is a massive start.

Seriously, what's wrong with the 100M estimate? What y'all laughing about?

Don't you know about the epic fudging that happened during TF2 OW?

Pramount kept TF3 at 98m and did not Puerto Rico it. With the actuals I don't see them forcing 100m. Unless it's at 99.9 or smth. But from 97-98 to 100m is too big to fudge with the actuals.

This feels like a no-turning-back weekend. TF4 in China essentially outperformed TF4 in USA this weekend, and will definitely outperform its entire US run.

Expect #Hollywood action tentpoles to include more locations & actors from #China & of course no criticism of Chinese govt.

Maleficent's 5th weekend being bigger than Alice and Oz's 5th weekends

Maleficent being the only major Summer release so far to triple its OW

Yeah, it's been showing some really great staying power compared to everything else this summer. A very good performance all around.

They don't need to Puerto Rico it. That was amazing because they adjusted actuals severaldays after the fact. All they need to do is give it a percentage point or two better drop today and if they need to, they can have it drop a percentage point or two more tomorrow.

can dragon even reach 170m at this rate ...

Madagascar3 had a 19.7m weekend and made 59m more. That's 2.99x.

So if Dragon2 can add 3x the weekend more to it's run, that's 121.8 + 39.3 = 161m.

I wouldn't count out late legs kicking in like with DoFP, but it's tough.

It also zoomed right past Spidey and Godzilla in total gross. Very impressive.
