Thank God Deliver Us From Evil opened higher than ETE! (BSG purposes)

It's starting.

John Carney's specialty film Begin Again performed nicely for The Weinstein Co. after expanding into 175 theaters Wednesday, grossing $1.7 million for the five days for a domestic total of $1.9 million. The movie, starring Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo, posted one of the best location averages of the holiday stretch.

HTTYD2 may have been a shocker in its underperformance, but in terms of potential vs. real, AMWTDITW has probably the biggest differential. After Ted, who would have thought that Seth's follow-up would fail to cross $45m? What's the last time that a filmmaker's follow-up to a success (especially an original breakout) tanked THIS hard?

TF4 is set for a 36-37M three day 2nd weekend.

Dark of the Moon had a 47M+ second weekend, and that was without a 4th of July weekend to cushion its Sunday drop.

It's now at 87M behind the previous installment.

This series is falling off a cliff.

Oh boy.

Its a 4th film with a new cast and a new story. And if falling off a cliff means making a bill then every films should fall off a cliff.

On the whole, I would say yes, though obviously BSG has far better VFX. The first couple of seasons of BSG are arguably superior, but the show did start to fizzle out toward the end. The strength is B5 is the on-going story: while each episode (for the most part) is constructed like a stand-alone ep (at the time, arcs on TV were considered verboten), the B-stories in even the lesser episodes often contain key moments and continuations of the greater story, so as you watch, it's like one giant tapestry coming together.Combine that with the fact that it's a very mythic and grand show with remarkably vigorous worldbuilding (JMS has repeatedly said one of his inspirations was LOTR) and the cumulative effect is very strong. The ending of the finale is powerful stuff.

BSG and B5, two of my favorite TV shows. :)
