One more time: the movie is indeed very cheap and desperately trying to pass for a bigger movie, using all the trailer tricks and cliches of the genre.

Typical January schlock. Better go see Star Wars one more time, guys.

Problem is the trailer makes it look like there is nothing original about it, but a mishmash of clichés stolen from every Alien Invasion film every made...from Independence Day to War of the Worlds to Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. Give audiences no reason to see it.

It is going to be yet another YA book series that fails miserably at the movie box office.

And as I type this I have just seen, literally, my very first commercial advertising this movie that's coming out in two days.

Yeah, trying to figure out what the ceiling for this movie is in a best case scenario. I really doubt it hits 100M DOM.

80M maybe if it can break out and gets a fraction of that TFA audience.

Maze Runner made 100 DOM. I still don't know how that happened. That movie was boring as hell.

maze runner had a male protagonist and the whole "mystery of the maze" gimmick behind it, plus the only similarities they could draw from MR and other YA movies was that it was woodsy and was "filled with teens" in a dystopian future

 

5th wave just looks like a rehash/clutter of everything. the only gimmick this has is the whole "disaster" thing. Hm. I wonder if this is a trilogy of books.

If this makes "If I Stay" numbers, that would probably qualify as a mini breakout for it. This just looks so derivative of literally every other YA movie.

The 5th Wave is the first book in a planned trilogy. The second book in the series, The Infinite Sea, came out on September 16, 2014.^[8] The third book in the series is namedThe Last Star and is scheduled to come out May 24, 2016.^[9]

They won't get adapted.

 

Although, I could see this doing... okay for itself. Budget was only 38M, so even 100M WW is a success (which it'll do easily).
