That pretty much ended his career didn't it?

Apparently not. And the bastard hasn't even taken responsibility.

Of course, if he did, he might be open to be sued again or something, but still.

Then again, you still have Polanski running around out there too.

DOTPOTA can look a bit confusing till you realize there was a movie called...DBAMTSCWDYJITH.

Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood

That title was perfect as it captured all the Classic "Hood" movies of that era perfectly.  If you didn't see the other films the jokes will go over your head:

As for Apes.  Nice Preview numbers.  This is a huge Sci-Fi franchise but the originals and remakes never broke the box office wide open so the fanbase isn't as large as we think but there is a solid fanbase, this film will push the franchise over 1 Billion Adjusted and over a Billion Worldwide Unajusted.  Hoping for 65+ OW.

Adjusted:

1 Planet of the Apes (2001) Fox $253,149,000 $180,011,740 7/27/01
2 Planet of the Apes Fox $198,025,500 $32,589,624 2/8/68
3 Rise of the Planet of the Apes Fox $177,245,100 $176,760,185 8/5/11
4 Beneath the Planet of the Apes Fox $97,572,700 $18,999,718 5/27/70
5 Escape from the Planet of the Apes Fox $59,574,100 $12,348,905 5/21/71
6 Conquest of the Planet of the Apes Fox $42,344,700 $9,043,472 6/14/72
7 Battle for the Planet of the Apes Fox $39,775,700 $8,844,595 5/23/7

I don't know the specifics of the Landis case, but do we actually know if he were at fault with what happened on Twilight Zone?

Yeah, he was. Dude was incredibly reckless on that set then tried to shirk almost all responsibility for it.

Why? Rise got 176 million. It's already starting from better point than DOFP that followed First Class

What is interesting is that Rise grossed more than First Class and around the same as Captain America and yet for comic book films, there is a massive increase in OW gross and by extension frontloadedness.

We see very few backloaded blockbusters and especially fewer ones that have that backloadedness when the opening weekend didn't show much of an increase. We'll see if Apes creates its own unique and therefore new comparison we've not seen before.

X-Men has always had a HUGE rush factor. But, I should've specified sequel tent-pole. It has no chance of matching Maleficent's multiplier. It doesn't serve an under-served demo and doesn't appeal to as wide of an audience.

LeBron just made this a great day in our country's history.

Do we forget about the infamous letter from Cleveland now?

It's funny how Sports in the USA is ALL ABOUT BUSINESS. "I'm coming home" (with more money).

There was lot of testimony by the crew during the trial that he ignored repeated warnings about safety and by any reasonable measure he was beyond reckless.  In the end all he wound up getting was his hand slapped by California for violating child labor laws (though not for killing children and Vic Morrow) and civil suit damages.
