Weekend Numbers (pg119) Turtles 65M, GOTG 41.5

Recommended Posts

The Butler - advertised by Oprah and Oprah's fans are mostly White.  42 was half about Jackie Robinson and half about Harrison Ford's character, so it was a movie like The Help that White people also went to see.

American Gangster and Ray struck a nerve with black audiences.

You can't expect blacks to support every black biopic.

All audiences can be picky from time to time.

GOU looked a lot better than the pandering Butler and the Help. I didn't think those two would do that well and then 100m+

I predicted 100m+ for this and it looks like it won't make $35m. Wtf.

Sometimes there's no point predicting.

Because American students rank way, way down the list compared to other modern countries when it comes to math, science, and other subjects.

Those super smart non-American countries NEVER like stupid movies. It's not like Transformers had made almost a billion dollars internationally or anything.

Cept James Cameron won't be directing The Thundercats movie.

Would love to see one, even if it absolutely and likely sucks.

I don't need to see a bad Thundercats movie.

If Hollywood isn't going do it right I prefer they leave it alone.

Think about The Last Airbender and Dragonball Evolution. Both were as fun as eye cancer.

I saw the trailers for get on up and it looks like the same goddamn movie Walk Hard parodied a million years ago. I can see why it's not doing well.

I thought The Butler looked like a parody and it was a big hit so I wasn't sure what to expect from Get On Up's box office.

There are not many mainstream movies in a year made with main characters who are Black.  They make up about 12% of the U.S. population but are only the main character in about 7% of the mainstream movies.  And this year, the big hit one that made 130 domestic had an 18% on RT, and so far the one that is bombing is the one with a 79% on RT.  I predicted Get on Up would make 75 domestic.

Its Hollywood. They would make it regardless of how bad it would be, sadly.

why do you care that people are choosing what movies to see with their own free will?

First of all, Get on Up is not bombing. And second, your prediction for it would still have been way less than what Ride Along made. So why are you so surprised that Get On Up isn't performing remarkably well?

But Think Like a Man Too and the last Madea movie flopped.

That just proves black audiences are picky rather than biased towards stupid comedies.
