John Marston
The movie hasn't had a terrible drop once so the prediction about it's 'toxic' WOM was totally wrong. I remember how people said it 'might' not even reach 100m even with that opening. It's going to pass that mark without breaking a sweat. To be fair. Its drops aren't exactly great for a non sequel/original film . Still it could have been worse I guess Edited August 10, 2014 by John Marston
narniadis
I dare say - I believe the actual for Guardians will come in higher - that Sunday drop is so reasonable that it looks over predicted.
kayumanggi
My only complaint on GOTG was that the villains looked like they came straight from a power rangers shoot. Ronan, Thanos and Nebula looked made for a tv show and not really menacing. Also the Peter-mother angle seemed forced and bland. But other than that, it was magnificent. Visuals were astonishing, action scenes brilliant, and the music was gorgeous. This is what happens to most of Marvel's films. And it's not just the 'looks,' it's the approach. How can a villain look menacing if in almost every scene there's an ounce of humor, which (to me at least) is sometimes forced or over the top. Like, are these villains really a threat? CA: TWS was an exception though. The humor was perfect. The villain was awesome. I really felt like Cap was in trouble.Ultron and Thanos are really menacing characters. I hope to see that in the upcoming movies.
Sir Tiki
8th UPDATE, Sunday, 8:05 AM: The dust has cleared and depending on the percentage decline today, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will end up over $65M, it just depends how much over … some have it at $65.1M and others as high as $65.7M. Paramount has yet to weigh in on anything but — surprise, surprise a sequel that’s getting underway — and so will update again when they do. But if it falls 20% on Sunday which is usually traditional for this kind of picture, it will still have a three-day gross of over $65M. Gotta give kudos to the marketing team over at Paramount for opening this picture — they did a fantastic job selling it to family audiences. The Michael Bay production started out in late nights with a healthy $4.6M in late nights on Thursday and just didn’t stop, building strength in matinees and then just kicking it in evening shows. With a B CinemaScore, if history holds true, the studio can expect around a 2.9 multiple for this newly hatched franchise. http://www.deadline.com/2014/08/box-office-preview-audiences-expected-to-shell-it-out-for-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-will-guardians-hold-fast-at-no-1/ Edited August 10, 2014 by Neo

Deathlife
I know it's old news but I'm still slightly in disbelief at GoTG's performance thus far. As for Turtles, it's a much stronger brand that we give it credit for. I don't know the average age of forum posters here but I'm in my 30s and there are very few people in my age range that hasn't seen a Turtles cartoon or movie at some point in time in their lives. Heck, in the 90s, if you didn't have Turtle paraphernalia then you weren't really cool. Coupled with the current Nickelodeon series, it was always going to open big.Personally, I just didn't want it to hurt GoTG too much.
kayumanggi
How many markets? 250 M is a lock, right? 500 M worldwide or more is happening. That's bigger than the initial runs of THOR and CA: TFA. Who would have thought?

KATCH-2D2
To be fair. Its drops aren't exactly great for a non sequel/original film . Still it could have been worse I guess Compare to some original films yes it's drops were far from good but people had predicted it to drop 70% on the 2nd weekend and it didn't even have 60% drop yet. Incarnadine
To be fair. Its drops aren't exactly great for a non sequel/original film . Still it could have been worse I guess Put into context I think Lucy's drops are amazing. It dropped less than 60% against GOTG opening weekend (I'm pretty sure everyone predicted a drop of over 60%, or worse), this weekend the drop is less than 50% against GOTG big 2nd weekend as well as the big OW for TMNT and 3 other openers all vying for moviegoers money.
