"This has had the worst advertising for a big budget super hero film in years"

Come back to me when this becomes the lowest grossing funnybook movie since Fant4stic

I mean some of you are being quite extreme and ridiculous with what you’re saying.

It’s not like there’s been no marketing. There’s been TV spots, trailer has been showing since the middle of last year, they had new stuff come out less then a month ago. I agree we should be getting another trailer soon though.

I don’t think this is doing huge numbers by any means but 400-450 ww I think, and if reviews are very good and buzz picks up I can definitely see it going higher.

This is starting to remind me of that South Park episode where Cartman was left in charge of an amusement park and he stopped letting people in and over time because people felt excluded from the park they wanted to go in more than ever now despite not caring before. Then other restaurants and businesses started using that strategy by not letting customers in so they become more interested to go in.

The more excluded people are from the product/service the more they want it. I think that is the strategy they are employing here?

Imagine if Man of Steel, Justice League and BvS did very well and set the tone for dark and moody.

Would WB have attempted a serious, somber Shazam movie? What would THAT have looked like??

Shazam doesn't know what to do with his powers and starts misusing them cause he is just a teen. After a long arduous slog where few million people are dead he comes of age and the franchise gets cancelled.

If you say so, I have no idea what it’s going to do overseas.

Can you elaborate on why you think this will do those numbers overseas? Is it because of the humour? I can’t see how a child becoming a superhero isn’t something universally cool for everyone, no matter where you live.

It’s Goffe. He doesn’t like anything. That’s the only reason for his prediction.

Btw just to be clear. I don’t think the marketing for this movie has been off or anything. I’ve said in other threads regarding WB movies that they tend to do a last minute marketing push for their films and it’s seems to have worked for a lot of them. I’m just saying I feel like there’s been some missed marketing opportunities for this film given the type of character that Shazam is. And I would have been interested to see what kind of cool stuff they could have come up with. Granted they could still do that so I could be talking for no reason lol

I still think it’s fine, the first trailer kills it in theaters and we’ll probably get it with Captain Marvel. Remember the panic for Aquaman not getting a second trailer.

they don't have to try too hard cause they know that Pika-pika will make all the money that can be made. so they can afford to be a little lax with Shazam marketing. it should do well, though cause it's really charming and reviews should be strong.

No idea why you guys think there's so little marketing.  They've been advertising Shazam before every movie I see for at least 5 years now.

Only 5 years? WB is terrible at marketing.
