Interstellar continues to follow Thor 2 very closely.

Thor 2 - $2,004,268

Interstellar - $2,022,943

What was Thor 2's total at this point?

eta: Never mind. I found it.

Much bigger than Interstellar. I'm just using the daily numbers as a good way to project what Interstellar might make this coming weekend and possibly for the rest of its run. They had pretty much identical release dates and identical competition in their third weekend (Hunger Games).

The other day I had figured out if Interstellar continues following Thor 2 like it has so far every day this week, it will end up at $158m total. Looking at a weekend in the neighborhood of $14m.

Okay I gotcha. I just wanted to see how much the difference was to get an idea of IS final total. So if it follows Thor 2 for the rest of the way then yeah a total right around 158m seems about right.

A little difference in that Thor 2 acted a bit more like a family film.  It's second Friday it had a 197% jump vs IS's 146%

Interstellar does have IMAX this weekend whereas Thor 2 did not, so that should help. I also don't think Hunger Games 3 is going to open to $158m (probably 140-145), so that should also help Interstellar. Plus I don't know how much you can really compare the second weekends. Thor 2 was very frontloaded.

rottentomatoes watch:

first, some old movies that people may want to consider seeing if they haven't-

Nightcrawler - 94%

Birdman - 94%

Big Hero 6 - 89%

Gone Girl - 88%

Beyond the Lights - 85% (That's surprisingly good! I had no clue until I looked just now.)

Interstellar - 73%

Dumb and Dumber To - 24% (Which might make it better than Horrible Bosses 2, we'll see next week.)

and now for the movies yet to be released-

Hunger Games Mockingjay Pt 1 - 70% (after 101 reviews, 6.5 rating)

Horrible Bosses 2 - 14% (only 7 reviews, 4.1)

The Imitation Game - 85% (55 reviews, 7.4)

The Babadook - 96% (50 reviews, 7.9)

Holy crap for The Babadook! That is shockingly high for a horror movie.

Of note here, Whiplash and Beyond the Lights both decreased. Birdman increased, but only by 5, which makes me think it could be looking at a drop next week. So this is probably as wide as Birdman gets.

With it's sub 3,000 PTA last weekend after expansion Birdman will drop theaters until awards come around and then if it gets a lot of buzz and wins it'll probably go wider than it is now,
