Ready Player One | March 29, 2018 | Spielberg directing | No untagged spoilers allowed

It seems like there might not be any winners in March. Come to think of it, I’m getting the awful feeling that the only studio that’s going to end up having a good year is Disney, and considering that nearly every other studio that isn’t Universal is considering selling themselves to the highest bidders, that’s not a good sign.

The doom and gloom on this thread reminds me of what happened with Wonder Woman when it was tracking to $65m and look what happened with that film! Let's wait for reactions and reviews before we sign the death warrant.

We're only in March and there are plenty of films that are not from Universal or Disney that will be successful.

And we have a crazy competition "Most stupid comments ever!!!". First heavy contender is here!

It might be in the 20's. 35m is really low tracking for a movie that should be frontloaded.

why would it be frontloaded? It's a Spielberg movie should be well received so have decent legs.

This is nowhere near my personal best case scenario, no matter how much I want my club to win...

I really want Ready Player One to do as well as it can...

well guess it's time to get out of this thread, as well.  I need to stop going into thread where I'm actually looking forward to the movie :P

Compared to the Wrinkle in Time thread, this is nirvana!

true? but who knows where this poison will turn...

People are just bashing it based on the tracking numbers and the marketing, I think we need to wait until reactions and reviews as I've mentioned already.

The European Premiere is on the 19th March which is on the same day as the screenings in the UK so I wonder if WB is planning to drop the embargo that day or the 20th. I think if they're confident, they will but they could easily have social media reactions on the 19th and reviews on the 26-27th which is when the LA premiere is.

Is 35M+ for this bad ?

"Comparable" OW

Space between us: 3.7m

Source Code: 14m

Valerian: 17m

Ghost in a shell: 18.6m

Maze Runner death cure: 24.16m

Ender game: 27m

After earth: 27.5

Edge of Tomorrow: 28.75m

Elysium: 29.8m

Tomorrowland: 33m

Blade Runner: 33m

Super 8: 35m

Alien Covenant: 36.1m

Oblivion: 37m

District 9: 37.3m

Transformer Last knight: 44m

Fury Road: 45m

Ghostbuster: 46m

Martian: 54m

Gravity: 55m

War Ape: 56m

Inception: 62m

------------

Always felt closer to a Edge of Tomorrow than a Martian/Gravity to me.

P.S. The Snowman was worth the investment just for the meme.

I think it depends on how much money they spent on it. If the prod budget is closer to 150m than 100m, then 35m 3-day is not very good. I don't think it can leg it to 3x as the fan-base might show up early. Might do 100m dom with 35m ow, say 225m os, 325m ww (2.1x the prod budget if it's 150m).
