The Panda
Good numbers all around. Interesting though that ITW will make more than Unbroken this weekend when last weekend it was the opposite. ITW actually edged out Unbroken last weekend after actuals.

MovieMan89
Call me crazy but does Hobbit have a shot at 300 ? Kinda funny to see you of all people waxing optimistic about a Hobbit film. But sadly no, I really doubt it can pull off 300. The opening was just too low for that. I think something like 290 would be the ceiling, and that's only if it keeps up fantastic holds throughout a strong January.
John Marston
Desolation of Smaug lost theaters rapidly. Hopefully Five Armies holds on to them better
Moviedweeb
You serious? You can't take last week as basis, it was hugely inflated due to holidays. It'll drop 60% this week (7-day). I was just stating the fact that if it drops 50% per week from now on it will gross that amount. Nothing more, nothing less.
BK007
Hobbit has to make more than $100m from this point to hit $300m. That's impossible. Holidays are over. Perhaps the Taken 3 weekend might be slightly better than year's past because there are only 2 wide openers (Selma, Taken 3) but still in 2009 they dropped at least 50%, as I think most films tend to do post-holidays anyway. La Binoche
The risky bet of waiting until the last day of 2014 to platform A Most Violent Year in awards season seems to be paying off for A24. The film, directed by JC Chandor and starring Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain, opened on four screens, is turning in the 5th best indie per screen average of the year, behind only The Grand Budapest Hotel, Birdman, Boyhood and The Imitation Game. Most shows have been sellouts and the film has gotten a 92% Rotten Tomatoes score. Film is clocking in at $50,000 per screen for the three day, $66,000 for the four day and $77,000 for the five day holiday period. More to come in specialty box office report. http://deadline.com/2015/01/a-most-violent-year-momentum-1201340080/ Good to hear. It's one of the best movies of 2014.

BK007
Good to hear. It's one of the best movies of 2014. Certainly he has a much more interesting filmography than the overrated pretentious borefest that is PTA. Oops.
La Binoche
Certainly he has a much more interesting filmography than the overrated pretentious borefest that is PTA. Oops. Lately yes, but Boogie Nights, Magnolia and There Will Be Blood take a huge dump all over Chandor's films.
