Who isn't convinced that foreign is way more important to a movies profitability these days? Fifty Shades domestic is collapsing but it's irrelevant due to the overwhelming overseas reception. You have to think low $100m TOTAL domestic on each of the two sequels but it won't matter when the WW gross locks in the huge gains the studio needs to justify rising costs.

And when you add in it's $40M production budget, 50Shade's $500M gross is a massive profit for the studio.

So it looks like Spongebob will out gross 50 Shades of Grey, who saw that coming.

Honestly, I'm not that shocked. SpongeBob is a non-offensive kids movie with zero competition (Paddington was pretty much dead by Feb 6) until Cinderella. 50 Shades is a hard R, BDSM movie with a ton of controversy and obvious frontloading.

SpongeBob 2 making it to $160-170 million is spectacular. But 50 Shades crossing $150 million is also great. Not to mention Kingsman should get $110-120 million by the time it's done. And McFarland, USA/The DUFF could both leg their way past $40 million.

February was solid this year.

btw, Focus is not out in many money making countries yet.

UK/Ireland and Russia seem to the only major countries it is out, beside USA/CAN
