Weekend Thread | Weekend Estimates: PP2 - $70.3M, MM:FR - $45.5M, TA2 - $38.84M

Recommended Posts

WB green lit FURY ROAD and saw it thru for the same Paramount was willing to invest $175m+ for a project that grossed $385m WW (Star Trek).... to use a re-imagining of one of their library franchises to jumpstart a new one while breathing new life into the old titles.

The one big difference with Paramount and Star Trek is that the movies also exist to refresh and keep relevant the entire franchise to keep selling that huge back catalog on DVD, TV, Streaming, PPV etc.

And Tele, my mother does not thank you for recommending Mad Max (said it was the worst movie she can remember seeing in ages) though she appreciated something nice to look at in terms of "Handsome Bob" even if "he's no Mel Gibson".

Whenever I read something about teenage girls being the driving force behind the success of a film, it always sounds like you are trying to invalidate the gross of the film.  Teenage boys make up a massive audience for so many films, so why the need to point out that teen girls are out in full force.  Money is spent the same way, regardless of who it comes from.

You took your mom to see Mad Max? My hat's off to you... or maybe her.

Yeah, money is money. Who cares what demographic the majority of it is coming from. Edited by Empire Out

Seems like no basketball for the first time in a while helped, much better than I was expecting for all

Helped what? The weekend thread?

There are so many demographics, so trying to appease one such as teen girls is smart.  That demo seems to be under served at times.  So good on PP2 for capitalizing on it.  Isn't Elizabeth Banks a producer on that film?

***Just checked...she directed it too....wow.  My bet this is going to be her Hangover.  My guess is she is getting a major back end deal on this one.

I've always liked Banks.  She's been around for more than a decade and yet she's not really a major heavyweight in Hollywood.  Looks like that is going to change.

It's amazing how some people are so easily offended.

It is, isn't it?? If that's the worst possible thing some of you folks have ever heard in your short life thus far, then you're doing pretty good..

Funny exchanges. I was called a misogynist  here last year for telling a guy to stop being a pussy. Don't know how telling someone to stop being warm, soft and wet,  and to man up, has anything to do with misogyny. Yes people like to state they are easily offended by a little comment then turn on and enjoy Game of Thrones where most women are whores and treated so wonderfully.

Porn, strip clubs and prostitution are at all time highs, and so is the PC

The polarization is a amazing.

Just not to be off topic. I read there is a crazy scene with a pregnant woman in MM. Enjoy the depiction of mistreating women in a movie, just don't change the title of one to b@%ch!! God Forbid.

I'm ready for a shot and a beer at a titty bar, you two game?

It's that whole casual misogyny thing that humans have mastered

Hey, she owns all the originals!  This is a woman who's favorite movies are The Good The Bad & The Ugly, Alien, Aliens, Die Hard, Terminator 2 and TLOTR and will watch anything from the action oeuvre of Eastwood, Arnold, Sly, Gibson, Willis, Stratham or Cruise - I mean even the Expendables though she drew the line at the third one!

Yep, not to mention that when I left Mad Max there was a long line for PP2 and it was primarily adults and a good percentage looked to be a male persuasion.

Considering openers opened to 115 million expected Holdovers to get slaughtered.

China 155-160 million 6-day opening for AOU.

Id say Avengers held very well.

Yep, that's me.  Only reason I'm going to see MM first is so Tele doesn't disown me.  Otherwise, I'd be seeing PP2 today.  :)
