I thought Dwayne Johnson was already considered a draw? Wasn't he referred to as box office Viagra years ago?

Well he wasn't really considered a box office draw for a while, since he's actually had very few hits that weren't sequels to previous films.

Can The Rock be considered a draw now?

He is one of the few that can guarantee a solid OW these days, even if the film is mediocre. Hercules wouldn't have done $30 million OW with just any pretty boy or MMA fighter.

San Andreas wouldn't open over $35 million without The Rock. Paul Giamatti isn't getting people in there

3.1?  Good number.  I felt this was going to be the movie to finally prove Rock's "Leading" man status and draw power.  He's on ALL the marketing and posters.  They promoted this as "See The Rock in a crazy Disaster Movie".   Let's see how it does the rest of the weekend.  But I definitely think Rock has established himself as a draw.  It took him a decade plus after "Scorpion King" and some flops here or there but he's found himself now as a Leading man.

he was more francise viagra as any time they stuck him in a franchise, the next movie usually increased a lot.

So looking back about decade at the biggest "End of the World" Disaster films.  "Day After Tomorrow" did about 68 Million OW 11 years ago.  "2012" did about 65 Million OW 6 years ago.   So yeah if SA can get over 50 OW for the Disaster genre that's about in line with Mr. Blow up the world Roland.

The Rock has 7 100 Million + Domestic Films.  4 of those were outside the "Fast and Furious" series.  I think he's come a very long way since "Scorpion King" which was his 1st staring role and almost did 100 Million, tapped out at 91. Also the "Game Plan" tapped out around 90 too.  Rock again has slowly but surely showing himself to be a draw.

Scorpion King is still Rock's biggest OW for a solo lead movie, at least till Sunday.
