Weekend Actuals 7/3-7/5: Inside Out 29.77M, JW 29.24M, Genisys 27.02M. Greek Wedding's record survives

Recommended Posts

Paranormal Activity ends this October. I will be shocked if they don't do another Spongebob, tho, and WWZ2 is already on the schedule. Lets see how the reboots of The Ring and Friday the 13th work.

Sony has Spider-Man, Ghostbusters, Smurfs, Hotel Transylvania, Angry Birds, The Equalizer, Jump Street, Men in Black (a reboot one way or another is happening sooner or later), Inferno, and I think Pixels is gonna be a new franchise for them.

Ghostbusters will probably be good, but never say never. Hotel Transylvania could end up like Cloudy and Equalizer like Taken. It's likely too late for Angry Birds to be anything special and who knows how Get Smurfy (still can't believe this is a real title) will do.

Just got back from Genisys and it honestly wasn't all that bad. Sure it didn't handle time travel as well as some other movies and therefore got kind of muddled but it was still very entertaining. The first act was straight up great, and I loved how the mimicked the first movie (at first).

My problems were with a certain line Arnold said at one point... ahhh I won't get into it I'm on my phone and don't know how to do spoiler tags from there. But one issue I will always have with the terminator movies are the fights between two terminators: they take turns beating the snot out of the other while one does the punching and the other stands there like a punching bag. Ugh it does get annoying.

And do anyone who has seen the movie, what happened in that post credit scene? I didn't exactly get it...

My local theaters are apparently going full retard with their PLF screens for this coming weekend. Instead of Minions, one of them is playing Magic Mike in RPX. The other is apparently splitting shows between Magic Mike and Terminator. Meanwhile you have a $100+ million opener playing on much smaller screens while MM/T5 are playing to audiences that are likely 10% full at best in huge auditoriums. Stupid, lol.

Legit, I see 95M being the highest it goes. I see under Inside Out OW as a very distinct possibility.

All the buzz is gone among kids; it peaked too early.

Not sure how true this is, but it does make me wonder - are there any movies that would have done better if they were released earlier, because the buzz was bigger during pre-release than it was by the time release rolled around?

Yeah, I wonder what will happen if they start having a bunch of sellouts on Friday. Jurassic World was one thing, but dealing with a bunch of screaming kids who came to find that they can't see the movie they wanted to see?

Was hoping JW could hold a bit better during the weekend but still great numbers

It did pretty well. Deck was stacked against it this weekend. Lost 461 theaters, lost 364 IMAX screens (and probably around 400 theater-brand PLF screens), July 4th on Saturday, and World Cup on Sunday. All in all pretty good number to end up where it did with a 46.4% drop.
