Something about this is just hilarious to me. Don't even know why, maybe how you worded it or something.

It sounds like he has one for each group...his friend the diehard Marvel fan, his friend the diehard DC fan, his friend the diehard HP fan, his friend the diehard Star Wars fan, his friend the diehard PIXAR fan, etc. :P

 ‏@BoxOffice
ANT-MAN took in $6.40M on Monday. 4-Day domestic total stands at $63.63M. #AntMan

A solid Monday outing for the Ant-Man.

With Tue discount it'll do at least $7m today making it's total $70m+ going into Wed dailies. Probably be sniffing $80m going into the weekend.

We can add it to the 2015 list of $100m films Sunday afternoon.

Now, to see how that 2nd weekend drop looks to predict it's legs.

Largest DOMESTIC Totals – After Day 39

1) Jurassic World – $612,601,315 (Mon - $1,372,585)

2) Marvel’s The Avengers - $573,685,968 (Mon - $1,385,505)

So Avengers made another 50M after this point, and JW needs another 46M to pass Titanic. Certainly still possible for JW, but Avengers was just coming into summer weekdays at this point, but those will disappear for JW after the middle of next month.

Pretty awful for Minions, only a pathetic fanboy would predict higher domestic total than IO atm, it's tracking already more than 1m behind and Pixels hasn't even arrived yet.

But,  Minions are destroying IO in foreign markets...

My Marvel buddy also enjoys DC, he's just a comics guy in general, although he grew up more on Marvel than DC. And he's a film buff as well; we went to film school together.

You are either a Marvel fan or a DC fan. Never both. Never.

Regarding Minions "600m budget", This is my 2 cents. I am not that knowledgeable in these things so would like to read someone's take on it.

"Of the partners’ $593 million in spending, less than half was for ads such as TV and print, the rest being the estimated value of promotions, for example using Minions on cereal boxes, according to a person with knowledge of the matter who asked not be identified discussing non-public information. Universal isn’t disclosing its own additional marketing costs." http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-07-10/-minions-593-million-publicity-spree-points-to-film-profit

Universal's parent company and partners for merchandizing profits have 593m worth of spending and tie-ins. That is not Universal's P&A. The myth that Minion's budget is 75m + 600m has become a reality through repetition. It's 75m  + Whatever Universal spent (130m? 150m? 200m?)

It's partners will partake in the huge merchandizing profits and they had their own spending and promotion for it.

Too soon to use the word "destroying". IO has some key markets left that Minions has already opened in.

Minions is probably still gonna finish above IO though.

Maybe Donkey Kong and Giant Pac-Man will come into real life from that Pixels movie and wipe out every digital print of JP4. I'm sure Tele would be happy. :P
