Monday #s NOTHING IS CRUMBLING OKAY

JW and TA were in 3D too, senor.

Except by this point of their runs they weren't still making 80% of their revenue from 3D tickets as Avatar was. It was a beast in that format. TA1/JP4 around 50% on opening weekend but by this point of their runs they're barely on any 3D screens and probably less than 20% of their revenue comes from 3D.

Their fault for not utilizing the format as well. :P

3D or not, Avatar still destroyed them on attendance at this point. Take out a 25% dollar boost from 3D and Avatar would be around $2.2m adjusted for inflation. Take out a dollar boost of 4% for 3D from JP4 and it would be around $890,000. So yeah, Avatar selling around 2.5 times as many tickets at the same point of each run.

When Avatar came out 3D was hot and fresh, it felt like Omg we have to get in on this 3D thing.

3D was getting stale before Avatar made it hot again, and after a while it again got stale.

It will be very interesting to see how Avatar 2 performs... test the theory of how much of Avatar's success was due to the novelty of 3D.

Who knows though, Cameron might find the next gimmick to juice the heck out of his movie's gross. Maybe he will find a way to make HFR look a lot better than it did with Hobbit and people will be blown away by it like they were with his version of "shot in 3D" compared to all the crappy converted 3D we've seen in the last 5 years.

Is Trainwreck going to get to 100m?

it should but barely

Barely?  Really?  Why would you say that?  It will cruise past 100 mill and probably hit 120.

Avatar 2 is gonna come after such a long time. 8 years...wonder how many folks in GA are still interested.

Cameron and new tech for Avatar 2

Cameron is keeping his lips pretty tightly sealed in regards to just what his new technology will bring to the table in Avatar 2, but he did enjoy teasing us with a few key details: the new devices in development will help him film with motion-capture underwater—a feat that has yet to be accomplished. Additionally, Cameron expects there to be improved facial expressions, with the inclusion of updated motion-capture technology. Lastly, a new system for lighting is said to be in development, with the ability to light up large parts of Pandora’s jungle in ways that it couldn’t before.
