Not So Fantastic Weekend Thread | MI5 29.4, F4 26.2, Gift 12, Ricki 7, Shaun 4, Vac 9, AM 7.8

Recommended Posts

It's kinda nice to watch something bomb so spectacularly, I just wish it wasn't F4, just because of all the hate it got before it was even released. It never stood a chance :(

Think negative thoughts, negative things will happen I guess :(

Oh and as of right now;

Southpaw > Rocky

I want to back this up, so it doesn't sound like I'm trolling. Rocky came first, so I applaud it for what it did, as I know Southpaw of course borrowed some ideas and whatnot. But to be honest, I think Southpaw did it just a tad bit better. They both are underdog stories, but at the same time they are quite different. Both are 8/10 for me.

Boy, our theatre is NOT a good representation of how Shaun is doing.

If you compare it to F4 business and how many tickets that movie is selling, you'd think Shaun was gonna do 35M+ this weekend

I used to think that online chatter and movie reviews don't affect movies but I'm beginning to re-think that.

Make the movie, forget about the franchise.

Once you have a great movie, the franchise

will build itself.

Agree?

I don't know about that. Even excellent movies struggle to pull away from bad predecessors.

A good example is X-men First Class which was a brilliant movie but did just ok. X-men was in a good position because they could pull the original cast members into Days of Future Past to push up box office but FF has no such luxuries.

I've known for a while they weren't going to release it-- I guess Weinstein's had too much on its plate the past couple weeks (losing their head staff and all) that they plain dumb forgot they still had it dated. Should do well enough for them on home video though.

Known how?

Just smart guessing? Or do you have release date info too?

If so, do you know which movies next year don't look like they're going to make their release dates?

I've no idea of things like Bourne are even filming. Ice Age keeps moving release dates but for an animated movie not to have a teaser a year out is weird. Perhaps it's just I don't follow movie news or the fact that the only news they love to report that always takes headlines are the superhero crap I couldn't care about but movies like Tarzan, Start Trek 3, King Arthur etc all seem like just dates without movies.

Just saw Rogue Nation...fantastic movie. Glad it wins another weekend. In fact, with 8m Friday the weekend drop should be less than 50%...nice.

And I'm betting it starts really holding well from next weekend on. If it does 30m this weekend it will be around 90m away from 200. Definitely doable.

How the hell do you get a 29% RT audience rating on opening day? These are the fans trashing it. Even some films with pretty bad WOM like Spidey 3 managed over 50% on RT and that was after years of scrutiny. Wonder how low F4 will be once the DVD rental crowd sees it a year from now.

Yes, but no matter how bad everyone agrees F4 is, it will still not be brought up as much as SM3 or IM2 because they're so much more fun to make fun of.
