The line of thinking seems to be that they want studios to stop making these kinds of franchise entries "nobody asked for" because they squeeze out better (usually original) movies that could have been made/released instead. They want "bad" franchises (franchises they don't like) to be punished, not rewarded. To people like this, it's those dumb GA moviegoers in (whatever country/market - USA, China, wherever) ruining cinema by being stupid enough to prolong the life of a franchise that should be dead by all rights if this were a just world.

In short: "How dare anybody like this, the people who do are ruining the movie industry."

Yeah, and I guess same people don't realize those franchises that the GA go to is what helps studios fund smaller oscar worthy projects that only film critics can seem to digest.

I was actually referring to people who say these "unnecessary" franchise sequels and attempted reboots are killing off the original tentpoles and mid-budget programmers, not art films. The people who think popular entertainments should not all be sequels and (worse yet) poor attempts to recycled franchise from prior decades.

As I suspected, the gap between Minions and IO isn't going to end up very much. Minions pulling similar numbers to IO at the same point and 9m behind. Wouldn't be shocked if Minions finishes less than 10m behind.

But...but...TOXIC WOM! :P

TBH mid budget films are still being made but not in huge droves nor in prime months. Even Disney, who only a few years back said they'd only make tentpoles have made a few low to mid budget films in the last few years and have two in 2016 with The Finest Hours and The Queen of Katwe.

True. Most of the complaints I hear are about non-sequel tentpoles getting squeezed out, with mid-budget films being a second.

I do wonder if something like Gone Girl or American Sniper would have done well as they did had they been released in say June or July rather than October and January.

Why? If you don't care to see the franchise, then don't see it. I never understood this line of thinking. It's selflish. If people are liking the movies, and the studios don't mind forking out more cash to make future movies, then so be it, it's not coming out of your pocket.

Stop defending trashy movies.

What I forgot to add:

1995-1999 they released 176 to 186 Original Screenplay Movies per year according to The-Numbers out of 280 (1995) to 385 (1999) movies in complete

2014 it was a bit more = 389 out of now 699 movies

One of the many problems certain movies have: too much competition for a market with ~ decreasing admissions, stoped for a bit by e.g. 2009 Avatar, 2012 TDKR/Avengers....

They're very Bond in the sense of not requiring you see any previous installments to follow any particular one.

Yeah I really liked it. I assumed I'd be lost, but it was easy to follow. I never gave any thought to this franchise before, but then so many people kept posting about it here that I decided I needed to see it.

Um, most of the money they threw at their shit movies came from us, the moviegoers. Where do you think they got their money from? A tree?

And yeah, you are right. I shouldn't see the movie. Infact, I didn't even see the movie. Probably never will. Because why would I waste even a single dollar towards something that was half-assed and had no care or thought put into it? Something that AoU, F7, JW, AM, and MI5 did the opposite of.

If I'm selfish for not liking bad movies, then I don't wanna know what I'd be if I was selfless.

You can't really claim its a bad movie if you haven't seen it.

Not defending the film by any means.
