See TDK's performance as a good example of that. But this does have a holiday boost in the weekend, similar to JW's Father's Day boost. But TDK had an awesome second weekend drop for a summer CBM that broke the OW. It should have been falling 60% or more. TFA is not a CBM and it's not the summer it's Xmas weekend. I definitely think 45% is the worst it drops.

Unless this does 160M+ this weekend 1B is a pipe dream. I think anything over Avatar would be amazing. So seeing as that is nearly a lock now, i can't be anymore ecstatic then I am now.

Its basically the same field of view as a 60 inch from a couch. I'm with you, man. The center is as far back as i'm willing to go, preferredly i'm sitting more in the front section, just not 1st or 2nd row, that's too close even for me.

And if you take your 3D glasses off, you're literally watching a blurry double image, no wonder it looks like shit! (Not to mention, doesn't have a lot of detail). I don't always wear my glasses as they can give me headaches. I need new eye test but $$$$. And I know lol I mean that 3D is so crappy for me that I just take the glasses off as it's almost no worse picture and it doesn't make my head hurt. I don't know. $57m is an enormous preview number and if we're talking about an average of $30m in dailies from Monday through Thursday, it is possible that it ends up more around 50% drop for the weekend (incredible considering the $57m previews and the massive weekday numbers). TriggerMike
I still remember the first time I got interested in box office and stumbled upon Box Office Mojo in 2005. I kept seeing articles and stories everywhere about people camping out for star wars and just how much money it was going to make when it came out in a few weeks. Star Wars will always hold a special place in my heart because it was my first blockbuster I ever followed. Thus, spawning my obsession with blockbusters since. I remember the 16.9M midnight number and the 50M Thursday. Its crazy that 10 years later, a new star wars is out and rewriting the record books as we know it. Cant wait to track it the next two months. Hope everyone is as excited as I am.

wildphantom
I don't know whether anyone has mentioned this yet, but this could end up being a major factor in how far it goes.... right now I am relatively certain it will get a Best Picture nomination. You can feel the buzz right through the whole movie industry. I think it's in. Imagine that appearing halfway through it's run to kickstart it perhaps with people that might not even have been interested. It certainly benefited Avatar, and I really think as it stands it is going to get that big nomination.

To overcome the negativity is simply astounding to me. Avatar was working with a clean slate and it hit the 3D zeitgeist. TFA represents a comeback of epic proportions, restoring SW as the king of all movie franchises. Let's cease any debates over what will be the bigger accomplishment between the two box office behemoths. When TFA passes Avatar it will regain the throne the franchise so richly deserves. Maybe for Domestic, WW is not happening.
Orestes
I dunno, a Best Picture nom feels unlikely. It'll get technical noms for sure, but I don't see any others. If it does get a Best Pic nom, Fury Road better get one, too.
