I would say good riddance, but I'm an awful person. I want people to rag on him for eternity for his doubling, tripling, etc. down on one of the dumbest predictions I've seen. His reasoning was next level stupid and completely proven wrong.

You guys know I'm critical but even I say that's a bit harsh. It's a prediction for a movie, chill out. There are still plenty of crazy predictions to the upside percolating on here as well.

I don't agree, however, with the hindsight perspective that $4B was a "bad" or "too low" sale price from Lucas' perspective.  When Lucas sold the company, there hadn't been a SW movie in 10 years, and the prequels had a left a bad taste in everyone's mouth.  Lucas neither had the marketing savvy or power of Disney, nor was there any guarantee that Lucasfilm on its own would get the right director, the right script, and put together the right marketing plan in the way that the monolith-that-is-Disney could -- and did.

Had Lucas retained the intellectual property and crafted together another Phantom Menace based on Lucas' story outlines (which were jettisoned by Disney), or gotten a hack director, it may well have driven a lot of the value out of the SW franchise, and we might be lamenting how stupid he was to not take $4B (which was at the end of the road more like a $6B deal for him).

The prequels didn't leave a bad taste in everyone's mouths. TPM and AOTC were both huge hits with the public and ROTS even won over many critics and fans who didn't care for the first two. It's revisionist history to claim that they were hated by everyone or devalued the SW brand. TFA wouldn't have opened as high as it did if the prequels hadn't grown the audience for the franchise. And Lucas never intended to write the script or direct TFA even before the sale, so there was no way it would have been another TPM, quality-wise. Probably the only difference if it had been made under his watch instead of Disney and KK's would be that it wouldn't have played the nostalgia card so heavily.

It always hurts and you know it. Usually the Hobbit movies only dropped online after the New Year. This was too soon for Star Wars. As soon as word gets on the street, the movie is fucked.

Dude its not a dvd screener, its a bad cam copy with terrible sound.

The vast majority of people pirate things they have no intention of paying for anyway. Ignore Hollywoods scare mongering.

Oh, it is a Cam? Fuck that then lol. Nobody gives a shit about those. Every movie has a Cam online on the weekend of release.

I like Batman but the Dark Knight films were huge because it was a combination of Batman and Lord Nolan. Now Nolan is gone, i can imagine a lot of Nolanites moving on from Batman. Man of Steel was just average.

150mil will be a good opening for BVS.

It won't be this way.
150 is definitely good. But 170+ is where it will land, similar to IM3

Exactly. There is a chance a dvd screener will come soon as its award season. I think it would of been posted already by the pirates though if they had it. Disney probably hasn't sent out screeners because of that.

Creed, Hateful 8, The Revenant, Joy, Legend, Room, The Heart of the Sea, and a few other screeners are already online with more to come.

No way, there are hundreds of screeners out there on torrents. Who cares about leaking films anymore? It happens everyday.

It happens for EVERY film.

AVATAR had a dvd screener out at the end of its first week and it was the most pirated film of all time, it still went on to become the biggest film of all time though.
