I think Disney would be happy to have the "First movie to reach $1B DOM".

As I am pretty sure a $1b movie would get laid under a microscope by anti-fans for searching for faults and am guessing Disney is aware of that... (see the $100m OW by a competitor not that far in the past) I am having doubts they would do that based on that alone.

But as they seem to be not typical / known as to fudge, I doubt that anyway

There was a little Batman movie in 2008 that missed a Best Picture nomination.

was not the highest grossing movie all time

and that unacceptable snub is the reason I will never watch another asscar broadcast.

So worldwide, the only new top film not nominated for Best Picture was Jurassic Park. (Spielberg still won Best Director for Schindler's List.)

Domestically, it'd have to be before Gone With the Wind. (GWTW --> Jaws --> Star Wars --> ET --> Titanic --> Avatar iirc)

And with the exception of BON and JP the rest received a BP nod

More analysis! This time an in-depth look at Avatar and Jurassic World

Avatar

2nd week, 3rd weekend: $70.91 million / $68.49 million = $139.4 million
3rd week, 4th weekend: $28.43 million / $50.31 million = $78.74 million
4th week, 5th weekend: $19.62 million / $42.79 million = $62.41 million
5th week, 6th weekend: $23.55 million / $34.94 million = $58.49 million

Weekday drops, week over week: 60% from Week 2 to Week 3, 31% from Week 3 to 4 and it gained 20% from Week 4 to 5 (Monday is holiday)

Weekend drops, week over week: 27% from 3rd to 4th, 15% from 4th to 5th, and 18% from 5th to 6th.

Jurassic World

2nd week, 3rd weekend: $43.04 million / $54.53 million = $97.57 million
3rd week, 4th weekend: $26.93 million / $29.24 million = $56.17 million
4th week, 5th weekend: $15.99 million / $18.15 million = $34.14 million
5th week, 6th weekend: $9.08 million / $11.46 million = $20.54 million

Weekday drops, week over week: 37% from Week 2 to 3, 41% from week 3 to 4 and 41% from Week 5 to 6

Weekend drops, week over week: 54% from 3rd to 4th, 38% from 4th to 5th, and 37% from 5th to 6th.

Now, lets say TFA splits the difference in these drops (It's a December/Holiday release like Avatar but's more front loaded like Jurassic World).

Assuming a $108 million 2nd week and $92 million 3rd weekend for TFA, we get the following results......

2nd week, 3rd weekend: $108 million / $92 million = $200 million
3rd week, 4th weekend: $52.5 million / $59.5 million = $112 million

4th week, 5th weekend: $33.8 million / $45.6 million = $79.4 million
5th week, 6th weekend: $31 million / $34.7 million = $65.7 million

Through 10 days, TFA was at $540 million (give or take). My numbers put us at $997 million through 38 days. I'm more thoroughly convinced than ever that we are hitting $1 billion. Hope ya'll enjoyed my estimations and analysis :)
