The short lived record holder before this was Jurassic World with FOUR days. Also, less than 30 years ago the Opening Weekend record(Beverly Hills Cop II at 26.35m) was less than TFA has made every day for its first 12 days. And they said Titanic's original run would never fall. Thanks to the popularity of Star Wars(with a little help from inflation, 3D and IMAX) a film has surpassed its original record in less than two weeks. I don't really see it, it was a rather obvious joke about Hollywood and the studios. It's not like this is something entirely new, he made a similar joke about himself a few years ago, when he was trying his best to stay away from all the companies and the big movie-machine, only to turn into a head of a company himself. Maybe it wasn't the best way to word things by him, but the Variety article is pure clickbait that makes it sound like Lucas was somehow angry about things, which wasn't true at all. The interview makes that pretty clear actually. He has always used some rather drastic words for things, even against friends or himself, but always in fun. Episode 6 really feels like a conclusion to both the OT and PT and should be the last film viewed before 7. Here's my final ratings. If a family of four with kids older than 8 find TFA sold out for the next hour or two, Daddy's Home seems like the most probable alternative as it is a family-based comedy that could appeal to multiple age ranges. The film is probably the top choice for young couples or young friends heading to TFA but not finding seats available. Older couples and groups might be split across several films.
