China manipulating IP Man 3 or something

The distributor manipulated its gross by buying tickets for their own film and ghost screenings. This makes Sony's fudging of SPECTRE look like a kindergarten's job. lol

Here:

Chinese authorities have punished film distributor Beijing Max Screen for manipulating the box office of recently released “Ip Man 3.”

The company is to be suspended from releasing films for a month, according to a statement from regulator, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television.

A special panel tasked by SAPPRFT probed the release of “Ip Man 3” which was reported to have earned a gross of over $70 million in its first three days of release. But other cinemagoers and other distributors rapidly cried foul and pointed to manipulation.

According to state news agency Xinhua, Max Screen has now admitted to having bought up $8.61 million (RMB56 million) of tickets to its own film and to have helped create the appearance of 7,600 more screenings, so called ‘ghost screenings,’ that really took place.

SAPPRFT has also given warnings to three online ticketing agencies and to some 73 cinemas, which had participated in the manipulation. Their names will be published on a website.

How many studios would be screwed if they ever cracked down like this in America?

I have a newfound respect for the authorities.

All the studios and CDOs in the US are rated AAA.

Yeah. I can't wait to see the punishes because Paramount added 2M to TF4 OW, because Sony and Disney blatantly fudged Cinderella, Tangled and Spectre into the 200M or because WB bumped lifeless Godzilla and Edge of Tomorrow over 200M and 100M, respectively

Does anyone know why Lionsgate filmed the last two movies at different times, instead of filming both together like the Hunger Games? It seems like such a waste of money to not film them together?

Maybe they feared this would happen. After all, it was obvious to everyone but the studio that it was only going to end like this.

Come on guys....there's never any fudging for films.  All the grosses are legit.

Spoiler

* Note: Revenge of the Fallen's weekend gross fell $3 million short of Paramount's Sunday estimate, which would have put the five-day opening at $198.2 million. Though shy of $200 million, it would have still ranked second among the all time five-day starts. However, Paramount revised its grosses from Wednesday and Thursday upward, and that's what pushed the total past $200 million. Wednesday went from $60.6 million to $62.0 million, and Thursday went from $28.6 million to $29.1 million. Paramount reported that the differences came from unreported showings from the movie's midnight openings on Wednesday night, which went from the previously reported $16 million at around 3,000 theaters to $16.8 million at close to 3,300 theaters, as well as late reports from institutional IMAX locations and theaters in Puerto Rico and some Caribbean islands (which the studio counts in its domestic numbers), which accounted for $1.1 million of the difference.
