That doesn't mean you should actively wish for the movie you don't like to fail, and revel in that, that's the big problem I have. Many of you (and Chewy, it's not JUST about box office here) are actively rooting for it to fail, why would you do that? You don't like a film, cool, make it known, move on, you're not going to obsessively follow its receipts and hope it does terribly just to satisfy yourself and somehow feel it legitimizes your opinion.

I don't think it's simply taking joy in something failing, but that for those of us that really love these characters, but hate how Zack Snyder is presenting them on the biggest stage in the world, if the film is perceived as a financial failure, the likelihood that we'll get somebody else's take on them sooner, rather than later, increases exponentially.

So it's not just grave-dancing and hate, but actual hope for something better as well, warranted or not.

While I thought BVS was decent enough I completely understand why it's having such a huge drop. The fact is like MOS and most of Snyder's movies it's divisive to the GA. At this point I could care less what role (if any) Snyder has with the future of the DCEU.

WB knew the type of movie it had. Why else do you think it opened wide everywhere at the same time?

It literally been Civil War...

It would have like Trench Warfare across the internet especially if one got good reaction and the other not so much.

We want the movie to fail because it's an element of 'voting with your wallet'. I hated BvS. I want to enjoy Justice League. Therefore, I don't want Snyder to return for Justice League because I don't think he'll do a good job and I don't want his 'vision' to be the driving force of the DCCU going forward. And for that to happen, this movie needs to underperform enough for DC to want to give Snyder the boot. So I'm happy to hear it's underperforming.

And this goes for a wider context in the film industry as a whole. If BvS far outperformed expectations then you'd get a lot of films imitating that style in an attempt to replicate it's success (akin to how there were dozens of planned 'Cinematic Universes' after The Avengers blew up). If I hate that movie, then I don't want people copying it, so I don't want the movie doing well enough inspire said imitators in the first place. Similarly, I might want a movie I love to do the exact opposite, so more people might try and learn from it and thus the film industry might move in a positive direction.

Certainly, I get that you don't agree that BvS is a bad film and that's fine, but don't get all whiny that people might be happy with it underperforming (any more than you should get whiny that they dislike it in the first place) because they might have good reasons for it.

These threads would've been pure chaos.

Not like now isn't more subdued chaos.

you learn something new everyday ... for something as harmless as a movie you would think people would actually be civil .. I think it's too much to ask. It's funny that some people are even over the moon over it dropping as if they won the lottery or something.

Anyway , whatever WB will do I will respect their opinion. I loved the movie , some just liked it , some thought it's meh others obviously hated it with a passion .... it's a tough call for WB. I know many don't like Snyder's way (myself included , but this this the first Snyder film that I have truly loved ) but that doesn't mean I do not see how hard he works on those movie. Whatever the results the people behind this movie have worked hard and I hope things look for them in the future.

The truth is, any defenders here are being told to f off basically. It's an interesting social experiment though, everyone's true colors are showing and it's pretty ugly. To those asking why I or other people who like the film care so much? You might say it's just a film, but seeing such vehement hate and negativity directed against the film ever since the beginning, well, for a fan, it's kind of saddening, granted, it's "just" a film but it's tiring, and repetitive, and predictable.

An attack on the film is not a attack on you. My favorite show ever is Buffy the Vampire Slayer but every time I have ever mentioned this in public I get the "it looks so stupid" spiel. Theyre not insulting me. Just something I like. They like real housewives and I think that's garbage. We all have different interests. You have to grow thicker skin.

Can you imagine how they react when I say I'm a huge lady gaga fan?

CJOHN will unlock this in a few. However, some of you may not be returning to this thread for the next 24 hours if this keeps up.

PLEASE READ:

Okay, folks, after everything that's happened the last couple of weeks, the staff is sick and tired of dealing with what really comes down to simple differences of opinion. We've tried warning in threads, we've tried PMs, we've tried warning points, none of these lighter measures have helped much. As a result, we have a large number of threads that've been toxic to many members, and we've gotten numerous complaints that checking in to read about daily numbers, or to see what movie news has come out, isn't very fun anymore -- because a few people are so determined to push their own viewpoints that they're essentially trampling on everyone else's ability to simply come and hang out and have a good time.

So, here is a new policy. It's very simple.

DON'T POISON THE WELL. If you do, it's a 24-hour ban -- minimum.

What does that mean? Here are the bullet-point items that define that term for us:

  • If someone posts an insult to a member or fanbase (like Marvel fans are dumb or BvS fans are dumb). This includes trying to say there's a conspiracy against XXX or that a person has a XXX bias. Note: this also applies to a blogger or reviewer or person outside of this forum.
  • If someone compares CBM movies in a thread not dedicated to said comparison. Two examples of allowed threads are the BVS/Civil War thread and the CBM Showdown thread. Comparisons in daily/weekend numbers threads might be okay but you're treading on thin ice, so you better be damn sure how you present any comps.
  • Any attempt to shut out opinions or people who don't agree with said fan.

Any combination of these, or even just one of them, can constitute "poisoning the well", per moderator's decision. We realize that we staff-members also post in a personal capacity in these threads, and so to avoid one mod using their power to squash someone else's opinion, a minimum of two other mods or admins must agree with their decision before we act on it.

We hope that this new measure will bring some much-needed sanity and civility to the boards... but we have a couple other options up our sleeve if it doesn't. Please don't make us resort to them.
