MEH-MORIAL DAY WEEKEND BOX OFFICE | Abandon all hope, the box office is dead. 3 day weekend #s X-Men 65M, Alice 28.1M, Angry Birds 18.7M, Civil War 15.1M, Neighbors 9.1M. Bad openings, horrible holdovers.

No, Days of Future Past had 7 PM screenings. Mine was.

I don't think you are remembering correctly or your theater jumped the gun.  DOFP were to be 10pm or later for Thursday showings.

Some members are never happy.

It matched DOFP previews despite

1. less hype

2. lukewarm reviews

3. without Wolverine or old cast

4. despite being the 4th SH film (the other 3 being +300M grossers)

5. without IMAX

I don't see 90m+ 4-day. Had similar previews even though it started 3 hours early and had lot more shows. And is a sequel.

Soooooooo a 20M drop then. Would sound about right.

It matched them because it had an entire extra prime round of show times and 600 more theaters.  The reality is if this opened last night at 10pm in less theaters like DOFP did, then it doesn't come close to matching it.

So DOFP had the same previews but people predict Apocalypse to fall 20M short of DOFP opening?

Haven't X-Men movies been a sequel since, I don't know, the second one almost 15 years ago? Is that really a big factor for this one?

Also, this one had no IMAX.

Anyway, good numbers, it's in line with the optimistic range of predictions I guess. I believe it deserved more though.

Based on the luke warm reception and typical sequel frontloadedness any guesses what the DOM total will be with a 90 m 4-day?

190-200M. X Men movies aren't exactly leggy, so a 2.1-2.2 multiplier is likely.

It's a better number than what i was expecting. Alice2 will make lees than 3M

I don't know why people were expecting a lot of Alice's previews. Even if it's say 2.5M, didn't Oz only do 2M, and Cinderella did like 2-3M?
