moviesRus, What do you see happening? A sequel in a few years with some shakeups and a trimmed budget? I think the X-Men may survive in some form because of the rights, but I don't see another team X-Men movie in this timeline.

Most likely. New director and writers. Probably still the 90s story, just reworked a bit. Keep the budget around $150m this time.

Kinberg needs to go

Jennifer Lawrence needs to go

Singer can stay, either as a producer or director

The rest is fine. Wolverine 3 is still happening ( though I don't know when exactly this movie happens. Is it set after Apocalypse or after DOFP future? ), Deadpool 2, X-Force will happen for sure.

to me at this point, its pretty clear that Fox just doesnt have enough ambition and expectations with the X-Men boxoffice. X1, X2, X3, Origins, TW and FC all made betweent 300 and 450, and they still continued. So... why would they stop now? they just accept these numbers, even if the X-men have much more potential than that. But since Fox never made big changes to make the franchise bigger, seems like they wont ever do or care. So basically, we'll get another sequel in 3 years, this time maybe with a smaller budget. Lets say 160-170m or so.

BIG TC increase for Love and Friendship. Prety insane that Paramount could get 4k theaters for this, maybe they made some theaters do it in order to get Star Trek? Waiting for decreases now.

I believe they will wait on Wolverine 3 at least before deciding anything but I don't expect any drastic changes.

I still think they should just focus on the 4-5 spin-offs they have coming/planned for the next 3-4 years and then come with a new X-Men movie in 2019 or 2020.

im really hyped for X-Force, Wolverine3 and Deadpool 2. Wait and see on New Mutants and Gambit. That's a lot of new material for this franchise, I hope it all gets made.

With only one other holdover looking to crack 20M this weekend, and all other holdovers could possibly be less than 10M, I don't think securing 4000 theaters was much of an uphill battle.

Fox put over 200M into producing DOFP after 1st Class got less than 400, so I don't know that Fox lacks ambitions. And some of the huge successes in the genre have reflected not only ambition and box office potential, but also luck. In any case, to answer the question, things have changed. We live in a different climate. FC made 353 when CA:TFA made 370. XMA is making like 470-500 when Ant-Man made 520 and Dr. Strange may break out.

The other thing is the collapse of the DVD market. DVDs were a huge part of revenue in the aughts. With the collapse of DVDs, this sort of performance is less acceptable.
