Fox's problem is the X-Men audience isn't growing at the same rate of other superhero franchises. They also don't really have many gimmicks to pull since their series is already a team ensemble, there's no novelty for them in teaming up more people.

Marvel and DC both had their "explosion" zeitgeist movie. The Dark Knight and The Avengers.  X-Men just never had that. Deadpool is certainly their closest thing but again, not many ways to bring him into a regular X-Men movie..

You aren't thinking hard enough lol

For better or for worse Fox just isn't going to pass up that opportunity.

BIG TC increase for Love and Friendship. Prety insane that Paramount could get 4k theaters for this, maybe they made some theaters do it in order to get Star Trek? Waiting for decreases now.

Fucking insane TMNT2 was able to get 4000+ theaters. It will be one of the lowest openers ever in that number of theaters.

Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are the Evans and Downey Jr of  Fox's X-Men Universe.

Wolverine 3 is rated R and has a budget of 127 million, according to reports.

Deadpool 2 is already confirmed.

Fox has no reasons to be sad if Apocalypse doesn't make a huge money. They already got a huge profit with Deadpool. It's quite the opposite, Fox should be glad that Alice is flopping, Warcraft might underperform and TMNT 2 might fail to match the previous movie.

I still keep my 610 million prediction for Apocalypse, though!

Nah, not fucking insane. It's not like it's a crowded market.

Yeah, fucking insane. Zootopia opened in a empty market and didn't got 4000 theaters, for example.

It could be a funny idea to have Deadpool spend the whole movie saving his one allowed F-Bomb only to be beaten to the punch.  That's the only positive thing that could come out of Deadpool in a regular X-Men movie.

Not a bad hold for X-Men :D

I'm hoping word of mouth will give it stronger legs than most XMen films.  I think the critics undersold it at least as far as its intended market is concerned.

That's only because Zootopia was unfairly persecuted and it overcame the odds! /s

But seriously, it's a rather arbitrary distinction. Zootopia was also released in March, which is generally slower overall.

Apocalypse is no outright flop. At worst, it will break even, assuming $175 budget is correct. I doubt Fox will reboot or shelf the next X-Men. While X-Men films haven't been mega hits, at least they were all consistently successful movies that generated profit for 16 years.

Cloudy 2 got 4000 theaters in freaking September. There is no excuse. That number of theaters for TMNT2 is very surprising and kinda crazy.

If you look at 2011 to 2013/2014, CA went from 370 WW to 718. XMA would likely clear 500 if it did not face Warcraft in China.  I think it is okay to be a steady performer that makes solid, enjoyable movies. Not, every franchise will make a billion dollars and some are better focused with different expectations. Also, X-Men is about outsiders, and by nature only so many people have experienced that.

X-Men need not aim to make the biggest bucks in plausibly can, but at this point, it should perform steadily at a higher level than this. Moreover, Fox might not have the same expectations after DOFP and Deadpool.

I do think a visionary director and storytelling, a la Nolan and Batman, may present more promise than gimmicks for a bright future for X-Men.

It does deserve noting, though, that X-Men is older. The long run might matter because some of the signatures of breakout hits might not resonate at anther point as they do when they break out, as Deadpool might not caught fire in 2007 the way it did now and TDK might not right now.
