Weekend Estimates (Page 92): Pets 103.2M (biggest OW ever for an original movie) | Tarzan 20.6M | Dory 20.3M | M&D 16.6M

I'm surprised by the level of vitriol Secret Life of Pets has received in this thread. Granted, I haven't seen it, but what were all of you expecting? It's an animated family flick from Illumination.

Any review that attacks or mocks the other side (or praises one side) is too biased to be honest.

The legit reviews will just give the positives/negatives with the film.

That will be most of them in the mainstream press. I bet many critics haven't given two thoughts to whatever controversy there is with the Ghostbusters.

IMDb is a fanboy site though, so those things happen often. Regardless of how well-received it is, The upcoming Ghostbusters reboot will have a really low rating on IMDb, for that very reason.

That's what I've already stated though. I said besides comic book films and a movie like Ghostbusters, IMDb is fairly consistent about other films in regards to their Flixster scores and then gave examples of recent releases showing that.

I honestly think IMDb ratings are pretty fair after a year or so. They get balanced out as people take off the rose colored glasses and the fanboys stop brigading the voting.

IMDb ratings are fine after a year, but using them so as reference for a film's reception a day after release is pointless IMO.

We've been spoiled by the high quality of animated family flicks recently, that SLOP felt like a dud.

I can confirm all Nolan IMDB scores are accurate.

Since ghostbusters thread is locked I will post here. It appears it will be good and have good reviews. Dark Shape @ KJ has already seen it. So next weekend would be good to watch. Another break out OW for sure(I would say 60m+).

Have you joined the casino thread?  If not, you should.  I'll bet you 100 points that Ghostbusters doesn't open to more more than 50 million.

The only good animated film out so far this year (haven't seen Zootopia) is Jungle Book.  Dory is....well fuck that stupid blue fish.

During the first few days though there's a large influx and 1 and 10's to a lot of films rating. It's largely why I don't take IMDb ratings that seriously, not to mention that anyone can vote, even if they haven't seen the film.

We could possibly have 4 animated features earning $300+: Zootopia, Finding Dory, Secret Life of Pets, and Moana!  That is to my knowledge the largest amount of animated features earning above $300 million and three of them are original films!  Amazing!  2016 is truly the biggest year for animation thus far!

What about Sing? I mean, people were expecting $80m for SLOP, but it's exceeding expectations by over $20m.

By having, "From the studio that brought you Despicable Me, Minions, and SLOP", I can easily see Sing earning over $300m as well. :)

I'm going to save Tele Jr's mind and stick him in front of some Ghibli movies instead.

Cant blame one for choosing Totoro, Kiki, Ponyo and Arriety over the Pets movie.

Really any Ghibli movie

Poor, poor child. :ph34r::ph34r:

What's wrong with Studio Ghibli?

My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service are whimsical fun, Spirited Away an excellent coming-of-age story, Grave of the Fireflies and Princess Mononoke are both mature animated films for teens/adults.

I don't see what's so bad about them.
