I'm not too sure about it and I'm surprised the Dahl estate is willing to let WB do something that isn't based on any of the books. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has been successful for WB with the musical, the 2005 film etc but the point of Wonka was that he was eccentric and nobody knew about his past. Hopefully David Heyman who had success with Potter, Paddington and Gravity can make it work.

Given how critically acclaimed Paddington 1 and 2 were, it's no surprise WB wanted Paul King.

 

Interesting that they've got a new adaptation of The Witches in development, I love the original film but I'd be up for a new version that's closer to the book

I disagree with this concept; I really do not think it's a good idea.

Always nervous about spinoffs of beloved books, particularly when the author ..either by choice or because he/she is dead...is not involved.

Writers are not interchangeable;something I have noted a lot of people here have problems understanding.

I'm rooting for Ryan Gosling because I think he would just barely remind me of the Gene Wilder version. That, and I'd trust him to pull it off the most.
