Weekend Estimates: Lego Batman 55.6M, 50 Shades 46.7M, John Wick 2 30M

Recommended Posts

But yeah, I hope LB does come in at 55.6M.  It's probably going down from estimates, but if it gets a 3.5x off of that weekend, it'll hit almost 195M.  Maybe we'll see some fudging to that 200M?

Apparently though, it skewed 52% over 25, which could mean that there wasn't an inherent rush out demand for families.  Makes me wonder if families are mostly saving their cash for Presidents Day weekend.  It did skew 52% female like other kids films though.

(For the record, my logic was to ignore Lorax altogether and directly compare LBM to DM2, but ehh)

Oh, I thought President's Day weekend was this weekend. Eh, I'm not American, so I failed there. My bad.

But it'd still do $300M if you used that logic like Minions which has no chance of happening.

My faith at the box office in WAG is now restored:

LB: $55.6M/$200M

LN: $35M/$110M

Smallfoot: $25M/$80M (if not moved) if moved: $35M/$100M

SCOOB: $50M/$160M

LM2: $70M/$240M (if not moved) if moved: $80M/$270M

Well, I'm a master manipulator:apocalypse:, and my campaign would be that WAG was following Illumination UNTIL Lego Bats, and then they'd just take off in their own direction, w/Ninjago bearing no similarities to any Illumination film. #LiesAndDeception

Some thoughts....

La La Land's hold despite losing 1100 theaters goes to show that it was playing to a bunch of empty screens in Flyover areas (no doubt).

Holds across the board are pretty good, till you remember last weekend was deflated and then they only appear ok.

Films with big theaters drops were hit the hardest unsurprisingly, but SING actually held OK all things considering - theater drop was big and another animated film entered the marketplace and it still managed under 60% fall - not bad IMO - same for MOANA - and actually that one is a really good hold at -45%.

Top 5 films are in great shape and Rings had a decent hold as well considering the type of film it is.
