I think we need a break. I'm getting on that elevator right now.

Maybe that's for the best. It means our future will be bright provided it follows the course of Darker.

Dare I say, could Fifty Shades have better legs than the original? The audience rating for the FSOD is better than FSOG

FSOD

AUDIENCE SCORE

FSOG

AUDIENCE SCORE

If that managed to happen, it would be surprising since it's a sequel.

And the avg. rating for FSOD is slightly lower than FSOG, however there are around half as many reviews.

What you have to remember is that you're getting the core audience who really really liked the first one returning to see Darker.  So the ratings for Darker aren't including a lot of people who disliked Grey and aren't going to see Darker.

Basically the pool of people seeing and rating Darker are more inclined to like Darker then the larger and broader group of people who saw Grey.

  2. John Wick: Chapter 2 (LG) 3,113 theaters /$10.5M Fri. (includes $2.2M previews)/3-day: $29M/Wk 1
  1. Split (UNI/Blumhouse) 2,961 theaters (-412)  /$2.6M Fri (-46%)/3-day: $9.2M (-36%)/Total: $112.M/Wk 4
  1. Hidden Figures (Fox) 2,667 theaters (-734)/$2.2M Fri (-28%)   /3-day: $8.9M (-12%)/Total: $132.3M/Wk 8

Friday multies are too high on the holdovers if it was a regular Friday.  With some schools out and roads clear Friday multies should be lower than normal.  Their multies would be correct if was Valentine's day Sunday and holiday Monday like last year.

Split   7.8m 3x Fri

HF 7.7m  3.5x Fri

Still great hold with theatre loss and $130m in competition

Hidden Figures' hold continue to be crazy good.

Incredible. Well deserved.

That's a great number for John Wick. A shame it didn't meet our most optimistic predictions but it's still like a 100% increase from the previous. I think it can end up at about 80-90M DOM.

Won't make shit in NZ though because they haven't fucking released it grrrrrrrrrr.

What did the first 50S get?

Edit: never mind, you answered right after lol.

The second one definitely satisfy the core audience more I think.

The core audience is also mostly what's left.  They lost the following the new zeitgeist audience with the first.  Hence a better opening night Cinemascore.
