You're way, way too low on A Wrinkle in Time. No way it only does $50m with the talent behind it. Even Pete's Dragon did $76m.

Look at the talent behind The BFG.  It'll be coming into a crowded marketplace (2 weeks after Peter Rabbit, a week after Ready Player One), while Pete's Dragon's only competition was Kubo.

lol animated Spider-Man won't do that good. Also Spider-Man Homecoming will likely not reach the crazy expectations either.

What makes you think that, scoutboy? Is it because of The Amazing Spiderman 2....or that you just prefer the new upcoming ones  to miss at the box office and have mediocre quality like....again, TASM2?

Animated Spider-Man is probably going to look like generic mush, a la TMNT.

I'll think twice if the trailer looks good.

King Kong suffered from prerelease expectations. The epic 3 hour runtime and great critical reviews meant that everyone thought Titanic was in trouble. It then had a low OD and it's reputation never recovered.

Things went the other way for Skull Island, prerelease hype was low and everyone was expecting 40M with Logan winning the weekend. So this becomes an over performance.

King Kong (2006) adjusts to $292m domestic.  It only suffered in comparison to Jackson's LOTR movies.

One could have said the thing about Sing or Pets, then again it's Sony.

TMNT was made on a $34m budget, Spider-Man is likely going to be $75-80m budget.

How profitable was that Lab Rats thing for Disney in the end?

I'm sure insanely. Up to a point. Longest-running live-action show on the network! (actually, technically, it might be the longest,

period).

Tele probably couldn't afford to pay his bills when making it so he invested a shit ton of stock in Michael Mann's untitled cyberthriller.  This did not work out for him.

The difference is that those two movies weren't based on anything.

They're going to have to work hard to make an animated Spider-Man not feel like a cheap ripoff of live-action superhero movies.

Very true. But then Jackson's Kong made it to $218M DOM with good legs....which still made it one of the big hits of 2005. The reason that film didn't do higher...was mostly due to competition from the first Narnia-film.

Still a black Spider-Man especially animated will be a huge draw.

They've already made at least two TV SM animated series better than most of the movies (with most better than the last 3 movies)

I don't think it's going to make $300m though or even $200m because there's competition with the live action but with Lord & Miller producing and the material they have for Miles I don't think the odds of it being poor are that great.

True, it is one of those rare movies which is most likely a big success in terms of profit but will be remembered as a big underperformer by people in general because it didn't live up to expectations. I remember it was built up huge by the entertainment media who were then first in line to tear it down as well.

PJ fell in love with his movie for sure, 3 hours for a Kong movie. He needs a ruthless editor going forward @Telemachos

That and it needed to be edited by about 30 minutes - like most Jackson movies it's bloated and drags in parts.

I thought Logan was so brilliant, groundbreaking, daring and creative that people would realize the movie is a pure gem and that it would prevent the usual big drops for superhero movies

and

that the R Rating was the answer to cinephile s nightmares that have to put up with the lazy, assembly lined fluff Disney puts out on a regular basis in worldwide multiplexes with their family friendly PG-13 ratings, except for Star Wars because ... STAR WARS !!!
