84th Academy Awards Ratings Thread (less than Grammys?)

I really have no interest in watching, but usually I never do. I think the last time I watched or really had an interest was the year Scoresese finally won for the Departed. And before that it was Return of the King.I think the entertainment industry in general is a little too self congratulatory to itself. You have the Oscars, Tony's, Grammy's, Emmy's, Actors Guild, DGA, WGA, PGA, and the 9 million Country Music awards shows. I'm going to catch up tonight on some of my dvr shows.

I actually think it'll have more viewers than 2008. Hopefully The Avengers, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and Neighborhood Watch will make the cut next year and ratings will hit record highs.

We don't know the finals but it's very likely that it will be under the Grammy's 39.9m viewers.

Still shows they are not longer the biggest event award show out there by a mile, viewer numbers are good but the show better find a way to become more relevant as the 21st Century and younger generations tune out in a bigger % of viewers

The only reason the Grammies did well is because of Whitney Houston. Maybe if Spielberg dies the day before the Oscars people would tune in. Regardless of this year, the Oscars are still the biggest award show.

The general audience -- while certainly not as interested as the Academy would hope -- clearly doesn't hate the show as much as online fans and critics.

The King's Speech and the Nolan snub didn't help last year either. It was as bad as this year. Next year the ratings will skyrocket with The Master, Lincoln, Django, TDKR and The Hobbit.

I'm pretty surprised by the ratings. With $30M in BO hardly anyone saw The Artist, so I wonder what made everyone tune in.

They went up because last year was a disaster. They had nowhere to go but up and Billy Crystal is comfort food. He's the only reason I watched what little I did.
