BOT: THE REVISITING -- now up, 1987! MINI-EXTENSION, deadline is tonight, June 25!

Recommended Posts

FYC: Cobra Verde.

Last movie Herzog and Kinski did together, just finished watching it. Is good. Just as interesting is the stories about it's production. Shit is literally insane. There was apparently a documentary about it called Location Africa, which I haven't been able to track down. I imagine My Best Fiend touches upon it as well, but I haven't had the chance to watch that yet.

But yeah. This one was interesting. Definitely worth the watch.

I had a good time with Radio Days. Nice little movie.

Really dug Full Metal Jacket. I'd heard the second half was worse than the first but I gotta disagree with that. Second half was equally strong. Good stuff.

I'd agree with that. generally i think that criticism comes from the Ermey/D'onofrio fire in the first half and you're left with Matthew Modine being a wet blanket black hole of nothing as an actor which i would also not disagree with also i guess.

Heh. Casual.

Bet you haven't even watched Cobra Verde

I can definitely see why people would think that, since R. Lee Erney and D'Onofrio really do run away with it in the first half, but theres a lot of great little character moments all throughout the second half. I guess I just found myself engaged throughout the whole thing.

I quite liked the second half as well, it's tone and kind of character shift is a bit odd. and I was kind of shocked when I realized D'Onofrio wasn't nominated for an Oscar. but overall I felt it was a pretty great film from start to finish.

The cute little kid makes Where is My Friend's House passable, but otherwise, it's pretty rough.

I'm so thrilled this many people have watched Extreme Prejudice and liked it.  I used to be the only person I knew (besides my high school buddy) who had seen it.  But when everyone from Tele to Goffe seems to like it, then that pleases me.

Added a few more to my tally.

Near Dark was alright.

Withnail & I was very good. Killer performances from everyone involved and it has the best usage of My Guitar Gently Weeps in any film ever. Apparently this is one of Taika Waititi's inspirations for Thor: Ragnarok, so that's interesting.

The Untouchables was also very good. Sean Connery was obviously the standout, but it's a good film all around. I dug the score in particular. One scene was a little hard to take seriously though, since I saw The Naked Gun 33⅓ a few years before I watched this and it was all I could think of during that whole sequence.

Not exactly a lot of competition there. Unless you just want to take down Kubo a little. In which case I'll allow it.

I can't wait to see Thor and Hulk try to survive the cold English countryside.

1- Withnail & I

2- Kubo and the Two Strings

3- The Mummy Trailer
