The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

I always thought that Fandango pulse was the top 5 movies in terms of tickets sold in the past 24 hours.

The reason why new releases show up over-night is because there are less people buying tickets to the films out at the moment, and thus from a 24 hour period from over-night to -overnight, you're going to have new releases showing up in the top 5. But I could be mistaken and it could be by the hour.

I thought this too, but it resets every 00:00.

so, it's not "in 24 hours" already

I'm getting confused. I'm not finding another explanation. We can check during the day to confirm if it counts over hour, for 24 hours or only the sales of the day. Pulse top 5 is not working here.

Always thought it was called pulse to represent that it is about right now, even making it look like if it was real time.

Fandango pulse from what I understand is the last 1,000 sales, could be the last 8 minutes, could be the last 40 minutes depending how long it take to make 1,000 sales.

Anything made by people that add pulse result into an summation over time are "unpulsing" the result.

It's cheap Tuesday plus it's 2 hours too early and still I counted not less than 87 sold tickets/5 Min. for The Nun.
Will count again in two hours (the much more favourable time) for some comparisons.
Of course it will be frontloaded and all but that's great :).

Ok, sigh, NOW it's cheap Tuesday and I counted 35/5 minutes for The Nun.
M: I 6 had 35/5 minutes too, several hours later but also on a Tuesday and The Meg had 16/5 minutes, same day and daytime.
I guess The Nun is more frontloaded than these two movies (?) but so far, it's looking good.

For the fifth weekend in a row Warner Bros. will rule the top of the box office, this time with New Line’s Conjuring spinoff The Nun which is expected to bring the Burbank, CA studio moola from heaven with an estimated $36M-$45M start at an estimated 3,700-plus locations. Two out of three tracking services have The Nun north of $40M, and there’s a very good chance that the Corin Hardy-directed pic will rep a record debut for The Conjuring universe, besting the first 2013 installment’s debut of $41.8M.

While “The Nun” won’t be the smash hit that “It” was, it is in position to set a franchise opening record for the “Conjuring” films. Independent trackers are expecting the $22 million film to open in the high $40 million range this weekend from 3,700 screens, with the most optimistic projections reaching $52 million. WB is projecting a low $40 million start.
