Did you know that there are

500 too 800 to sometimes 1200+ people that work on VFX heavy tentpoles, 15-18 hour days for 6-12-15+ months ?

People that are highly highly educated, very bright in plenty of fields, they have a deep understanding of maths, animation, all the arts, and of course were born with a computer in their hands.

I am gonna sound patronizing here but I am not sure people sometimes truly realize how complex and layered the modern VFX blockbuster have become with hundreds, thousands of VFX shots to complete for each movie.

These images don't exist ex-nihilo, you have to create them from the ground-up, design & create the assets, animate them, composite them with the plate shots, light them and make the shot work to the best of your abilities.

VFX is very hard, long and costly work and I d say half the budget of these movies, sometimes way more.

I heard The Mummy s credits were 11 minutes...

The Mummy is an excellent summer popcorn movie. The Mummy Returns is a good popcorn movie that could have been better if not for the horrible CGI scorpion king and being a little overstuffed. TM3 was god awful though in every way possible.

This one looked so bland it ain't funny. Actually I am 100% sure that Len Wiseman and Andy Muscheatti could have done so much more atleast visually and action wise.

A 30m OW would be one of Cruise's top OWs, excluding Mission Impossible. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/people/chart/?view=Actor&id=tomcruise.htm&sort=opengross&order=DESC&p=.htm

Yeah but that list goes back a long long way when movies opened in a fraction of the theaters and were far far less front loaded.  Just look at his two highest adjusted - Top Gun and Rain Man...

15 + 20.6 (+37%) + 15.4 (-25%) = 51

Beating BVS's 51.34 2nd weekend still on the cards.

Very much so. I actually believe, due to the game tonight, it will come in just under $15M but recover well on Saturday and, if there's not a Game 5, Sunday as well. I now believe a weekend just $50M+ is happening. Very, very nice hold. A 3.0+ multiplier and a finish between $315M and $325M DOM seems very likely to me now.

If anything, LOGAN's underrated at this point.

IMHO, it's an 8/10 film, right on par with X2. Deadpool in other hand is a 9/10 film, Fox-Men's very best. It's just my opinion, I can understand the nostalgia, but one of the best of the genre? Nah.

I get your opinion, just asking you to realize not everyone agrees with you. Not really sure what nostalgia has to do with it (certainly not a lot from my perspective).

Yes, if $15 million ends up being accurate for the Friday, it is going to be a close one it looks like. Looks like you made a really good club from that perspective - could be a really close over/under.

Regardless, $50-51 million at least is looking pretty realistic if the $15 million Friday projection is accurate. It's hard to know, because it is so early, but if this holds, certainly a great drop and second weekend for Wonder Woman.

Peace,

Mike

WTH? I know I'm not the majority on this. I have some very unpopular film opinions, like Batman Begins is the best of the TDK trilogy, I'm iffy on Ant Man and I really think Thor: The Dark World is kinda great. It's an unpopular opinion, not sure why you are thinking what I'm saying is the "common sense" opinion on Logan. It's not like I'm saying that Logan was bullshit like some were talking about Doctor Strange pages ago. I know that I'm not the majority, I'm just saying that to me, that film is overrated. The very fact that I'm saying it's overrated implies that I know that not everyone agrees with me.

Yes. All three original Indys are comfortably ahead of MUMMY 99. So is ROCKETEER.

And I like MUMMY 99 a lot. Ain't hating on it at all.

The Rocketeer? Yes! Also better than all Indiana Jones movies not named Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Rocketeer truly suffers from it's beyond bland leading man perfomance.  Dalton, Connelly and the great art design are high points but not enough to save it.

Temple of Doom - I just find unpleasant.  The only part I ever re-watch is the opening scene.

What happened to my boy Stephen Sommers ???

He's a mediocre director's whose movies stopped making money.

There are no Friday numbers at this point so I take Deadline's numbers with beyond a grain of salt.

Well, for me, it's a top 5 film ever in the genre, right below The Dark Knight and The Incredibles, and on par w/the 1st Guardians Of The Galaxy.

There, it's not underrated anymore - it's rated just about perfectly. :)

Anyway, a 30M OW for The Mummy is, by definition, pretty piss poor. I mean, we talk about a 62M OW being bad for Pirates 5? The 1st Fraser movie opened to 10M+ more than this in 1999. The Scorpion King, a lame spin-off w/pre-viagra mode Rock, opened to more than that in 2002. However, it does deserve the credit of being, apparently, one of Tom Cruise's best OW's... I guess.

I don't know exactly how WW can manage a 51M weekend off of a 15M Friday unless it has a ridiculous Saturday increase, but if there is one movie that absolutely can have a ridiculous Saturday increase + Sunday hold, it's this mini-masterpiece (well, maybe not masterpiece, but easily one of the best superhero movies of the last few years). I mean, that Thursday drop was something pretty astonishing. And for the sake of the over BVS 2nd weekend club, GO DIANA. GO BABE.
