Xillix
'BIKER MICE FROM MARS' NOT RIDING UNTIL Y3 TriCrescent Media has announced their Y2 winter tentpole Biker Mice from Mars has been officially delayed to an unspecified date in Y3. This doesn't come as a surprise as concerns about competition with Voltron 2 and the performance of the studio's own similar Y1 film Extreme Dinosaurs were already known to have been prompting the TriCrescent brass to rethink their strategy on Biker Mice. Although its run isn't finished, and TriCrescent reps have expressed hope that the film will be great performer overseas, the studio acknowledges the $26.5 million opening of Dinosaurs was "a disappointment" for the $100 million production, which had been projected to open in the high 30-millions. Pre-production on Biker Mice from Mars is being extended and the script reworked to try and entice a broader audience. Director Marc Webb allegedly remains attached to the project. cookie
The following are excerpts from a reddit thread posted in r/CookiePictures. The original poster claims to have contact with high-level sources within the company. The following statements are posted without alteration: - Mirror's Edge sequel? Don't count on it. My sources say there's a lack of interest among the higher-ups, particularly Sebastian Peters, in continuing the saga despite a "satisfying performance" at the box office. Most seem to point to the mixed critical response (the larger praise for Second to Singapore and Rollercoaster are said to be key reasons why they're getting sequels) along with lack of further worthwhile material to adapt. Pierre Morel apparently really wants to do one though, and has asked Peters to strike a deal with another studio. ScarJo is currently attached to a different CP project. - Fine Films Inc. is undergoing major restructuring following Doe John's departure. The accusations that two of their Y1 releases were plagiats apparently angered Peters greatly, who already had a very strained relationship with John. I can confirm that the way he described FFI in that interview is wholly accurate btw. The division was operating in complete disregard of their parent and an internal investigation apparently described a culture of "mob mentality" within the studio and ties to black market fonds. FFI currently has very few films scheduled due to the restructuring, one of which is Timmy's Winter Vacation 2 (exciting, I know). - Russel Crowe is apparently on a very tight leash following accusations that he was involved in covering up the Weinstein scandal. He's been told by Peters that the moment accusations against him come up they have plans to replace his role in Road to El Dorado with another actor. Ian McShane is rumored to be a top candidate. Crowe meanwhile is looking very unlikely to be hired for any further projects. - Speaking of Weinstein, Peters is apparently setting up a "black list" of actors and directors he refuses to hire, the Affleck brothers being near the top of that list. As a relative newcomer in the industry, Peters has said in private that he "wants no business with that bullshit". - On a different front, Peters is dealing with board members who are apparently dissatisfied with his decision-making regarding the creative aspects of the upcoming Year 2 slate. One executive is said to have accused Peters of "reckless indulgence" regarding two projects in particular, The Shadow Entities and The Scavenger Wars. Much concern is being held of an early character reveal in the former and several plot aspects in the latter, but Peters is remaining steadfast in his "full confidence in the creative teams" and has made it clear that these are projects he has personal stakes in. My sources say a large reason why Peters is even staying on as CEO at the moment is because of the box office successes of their "big three" Year 1 films plus the fast-tracking of Voltron: Rise of Lotor to December Year 2 and Peters having a positive reputation among the creative teams. This isn't the first time Peters has clashed with other executives however, as the ending to The Hunchback of Notre Dame is said to have been a no-go for a long time until a passionate speech from director Joe Wright convinced the board to put their full trust behind Peters. - On a more positive note, Voltron: Rise of Lotor is looking very good despite the rush into production. Peters is apparently very pleased with the early footage from director Shane Black and wants a teaser ready in time for the Oscar ceremony. Teasers for The Shadow Entities, Scavenger Wars, Road to El Dorado, Lance and F-Zero are apparently also in the can.
