Developments at Blankments Productions...

Four announcements coming your way for projects beyond Y6, all relating to previously announced or hinted projects:

- On the revival of the Muppets properties: Blankments Productions is aiming for a release in the first half of Y7 of a reboot, to be produced by several people involved with the 2011 film. Nicholas Stoller, James Bobin and Jason Segel are onboard to produce, with an interest to mainly keep the creative talent different, as so to have a totally different flavor. This means recent Academy Award nominee for Olive the Other Reindeer Bret McKenzie will not return to write the music and Bobin will not direct the film. Instead, the studio is looking a variety of indie comedy filmmakers and esoteric songwriters, with two in mind already, but not ready to sign on. Stoller and Segel have written a draft of the script, but that depends on if a writer-director is landed on or not. If a director known for writing is hired, it is likely they will do a page 1 rewrite of the script. The title and synopsis will be announced later on in Y5 when an actor is landed on.

- Kay Cannon has signed on to write and direct the Kim Possible "reboot." Completely disconnected to the Endless Entertainment Y3 release, it will treat the TV series as canon and be set when Kim is in graduate school. The film will be more aimed to young adults who grew up watching the show, while still being a fun PG-13 spy film. Casting is underway for three of the main four characters (Kim, Ron and Shego) with a nice array of A-listers reading for every role. Michael Shannon is already in negotations to play Dr. Drakken, with a three-picture deal ready to sign.

- Finally, the EGK/Blankments Wachowski Film... well, here's a refresher for what we're talking about here:

Blankments Productions Developing New Camera Rig for Secret Y6 Project

Blankments Productions is investing big money into the development of a completely new type of camera rig. The United States Patent Office has recently received patents for a new camera rig that would allow "use of split-diopter focus within the use of composited green screen without the loss of environmental elements within both aspects of the frame." The names attached to this, in addition to several camera technicians, include the Wachowski sisters and Edward Nadny, president of Blankments Productions. When asked for comment, Nadny stated, "We do not usually comment on unannounced upcoming projects, but I can confirm the in-house development for new technology for a film we are working on with the Wachowski sisters. Do not expect the tech to be complete in Year 5. We will make a full announcement at the start of production of the patent and other technological advances we are attempting with this unannounced project."

To be very upfront with you, the technology is not progressing as quickly as we'd like for the project. The film is delayed to late Y7 at the moment but could very well slip into Y8. However, the film remains in active development and in fact, has just landed a new producer to help, one very comfortable at Blankments Productions and EssGeeKay Studios. Bradley Cooper is stepping in to help finance the film, citing the project being one he is also very passionate about. He will have a role in the film, but it is worth noting he will be, once again, a supporting actor in the film, with the film's leads being kept tight under wraps until the project is ready for an official unveiling. The budget has ballooned to 150M and could go higher. The project is also targeting a hard-R rating and features a heavily musical component. This film will not be talked about again until an official unveiling in the year prior of release, be it Y6, Y7, or, if need be, Y8. Don't worry, we'll remind you again.

- Finally, Blankments Productions has just acquired live-action rights to Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, who recently made an appearance in Academy Award Winning The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, where she was portrayed by Sophia Taylor Ali. This film will be totally disconnected from that portrayal. The superhero movie is targeted for Y8 and the studio is searching for a female director of Middle Eastern descent to helm the film.

Gold Crescent Pictures has revealed a newly-announced summer tentpole - the Marvel comics adaptation Moon Knight. Rami Malek will star as Marc Spector, a former mercenary who becomes convinced he has been chosen and resurrected by the ancient Egyptian moon god Khonshu. He is inspired to become a crime-fighting vigilante, but begins to question his own sanity along the way. The pic will be directed by Michael Dougherty and release on June 10, Y6, two weeks after fellow comic movie Blue and Gold: Back II the Future. Sources claim competition with that Peyton Reed superhero-comedy sequel is "only a minor concern" to Gold Crescent execs, as Moon Knight will be a much more serious and "significantly cheaper" production.

A Journey to

THE GARDENS ABOVE

In an alternate timeline, steam technology had advanced through the world in the late 19th century, and its effects have brought on a disturbing new light as a massive war broke out at the turn of the century, where a chemical weapon was unleashed, wreaking havoc on the world. To escape, cities were built among the clouds, the highest cliffs, and most desolate islands. Connected by airships, a new world was forcefully born, and the one below was to be avoided at all costs.

Welcome to the world of The Gardens Above, your chance to finally see gorgeously animated steampunk wonder on the big screen. To set itself apart from other variants of the popular mode of cult storytelling, we will see steampunk across various cultures across the globe, and an inspiration will come more from the early 20th century rather than simply Victorian times. Director Josie Trinidad (whose work resume includes Zootopia and Ralph Breaks the Internet) is incredibly excited to tell tales of this world full of danger, intrigue, and excitement. She is also working on the project with veteran Disney animator James Lopez, whose pet project Hullabaloo was an inspiration for the film:

In dealing with the more complex aspects of animation, the film, which will be traditionally animated, may need to use CGI in certain parts. In such cases, heavy cel shading and minor irregularities will be used to give an appearance of 2D animation.

The plot follows Octavia (Lilli Cooper, Tootsie), a fairly resourceful "hero for hire" who spends much of her days fighting injustice in several clusters of cities that we would know as the United States of America. She enjoys her adventurous life, but feels lonely with only a clever AI sidekick (Jess Parnell) as her companion. Her ambitious but estranged mother, Prudence (Renee Elise Golsberry, Hamilton) disapproves of her irregular lifestyle but struggles to climb up a corporate ladder for one of the biggest and wealthiest tycoons in the country, Obadiah Felderwick (Rhys Darby, Voltron: Legendary Defender).

Things change when she runs into Tobias (Jeremy Shada, Voltron: Legendary Defender), an ambitious and optimistic student of a prestigious university, looked down upon because of his lower class background. It turns out that after his parents were killed by a mysterious - and sadistic - crime lord. He ran away and was taken in by an unlikely family - of robots!

Felderwick accuses Tobias of stealing a priceless treasure, a crime which he did not commit. Lo and behold, he turns to Octavia. She willingly takes on the task, but is unaware of the troubles and tensions that will barrel below the surface. While the plot would usually necessitate a surprise villain, we'll know the culprit right away: Marlena (Grace McLean, Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812), a mysterious scientist, serves as the main antagonist of the plot, but things will play out in an intricate web of mystery and suspense.

Aided by a sharp witted burlesque performer (Tara Strong, My Little Pony) and Tobias' adopted robotic "brother" (Ethan Slater, The SpongeBob SquarePants Musical), Octavia and Tobias begin an adventure that brings them closer to what they - and their world - have been missing for so long. Patrick Page (Hadestown), Stephanie Hsu (Be More Chill), and J.G. Quintel (Regular Show) also provide voices for the cast.

Irene Sankoff and David Hein (Come From Away) develop a soundtrack fulled by a feisty and homespun rhythm, fused with orchestral and rock elements altogether, while Patrick Doyle (Pillars of Eternity) will work on the film's score. All in all, it'll be a dark yet uplifting adventure for all ages, one that delivers an exciting adventure while also touching on themes like family, feminism, class, propaganda, and more.

In Summer Y7, prepare yourself for what lies above.

"We've decided on the approach we're giving to the Ancient Magus' Bride series," said New Journey Pictures CEO Glenn Guthrie in a recent interview. "We're going to approach it in a similar way to the Harry Potter movie franchise. The first film will provide a story that introduces audiences to the main characters and settings while also providing an exciting, 'episodic' type of problem for the heroes to solve during the film's events. Of course, each film will be less about the problem they have to solve and more about how the characters are growing in their setting.

"Unfortunately, this decision means that a few characters will have to be cut from the first film. This includes characters played by Ezra Miller and Carmen Ejogo."

The Ancient Magus' Bride and the King of Cats comes to theaters on August 12th, Y6.

More cast members for Endless Entertainment’s Power Pack has been revealed:

Chiwetel Ejifior (the Spark franchise) will play Friday, a sentient AI android from outer space who acts as a mentor and trainer for the young superpowered Powers.

 - In the comics, Friday was a sentient spaceship but in order to avoid similarities from Blankments/EGK’s upcoming Carmen’s Voyage, as John C Reilly’s character Bert seems to be a sentient spaceship, Friday won’t be a spaceship in this film.

Tom Vaughn-Lawyor (Avengers: Infinity War) will star as the main antagonist, the ruthless Jakal, prince of the hostile Snarks, a war thirsty species of aliens after a formula to convert anti-matter into energy.

Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park, Thor: Ragnarok) will play Douglas Carmody, head of Carmody Research and boss of James Power, the father of the Powers family and inventor. Known for his cutthroat attitude and utter greed, Carmody won’t hesitate to perfect and ultimately steal Power’s formula.
