I really, really hope people like it. It means a lot to me (which in part is why I got so worked up at what happened with Voltron) and I hope I can pull it off.

If anyone here’s a fan of RebelTaxi, he brought to my attention this supposed pilot that served as the initial inspiration for SkyRiders:

I’ll have to watch it once I’m back home. I watch RebelTaxi from time to time.

The Magic Behind The Brookshires

Spoiler

“This means a lot to us here at Endless Entertainment and will help shape our future” said Endless Entertainment President and CEO, Xavier Bartolomew Irving, speaking of their upcoming tentpole Barry Brookshire and The Case Of The Soul Key.

Barry Brookshire was cordially announced during last year’s Endless Entertainment Event and was scheduled for Labor Day weekend Y4, but was pushed back due to needing a bit more time in production.

“You see Endless Entertainment, although our quality has increased since Y2, are trying to not only increase quality but rather original ideas” said Irving. “We can’t and more importantly won’t do Lilo and Stitch 2 or keep on doing remakes of animated movies. We really want to start doing more originals” Irving sites Cookie Pictures, The Scavenger Wars as well as Hourglass Pictures Spark franchise.

Although despite Endless’ lucrative businesses aside from their animation arm, outside of remakes and God of War, the studio has had trouble getting original films or other films of the ground or with much success. St Claire and The Bermuda Affair, Endless’ first major live action original, has entered some massive reshoots after Irving was unsatisfied with results but will try to slide into Y5. Even their hopeful franchise starter, Connor’s Legacy has hit the back burner and is currently stuck in development hell, and True Love has been scrapped for now. However, Irving is undeterred, has been pushing for a 180, noting not only Barry Brookshire, but also the upcoming sci-fi tentpole, Lost Earth, the untitled LGBT superhero movie (which will be revealed at EEE Y5) as well as a musical from James Bobin. Celestial 3000 and Lee Unkrich’s upcoming heist movie are in active development.

”You see (Alex) Hirsch, who co-directed, “A Fool’s Errand” this year, pitched us this amazing project, Brookshire as his live action debut and we were really taken by it” said Irving. “We loved the story, the characters, the worlds it’d work and we think it could be our next Harry Potter or Bartimaeus but we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves.”

Barry Brookshire and The Case Of The Soul Key tells the story of Penny Cooper (Millie Bobby Brown), a bubbly young girl who has just moved to Oregon and is still trying to find her place in the world. However when tragedy strikes, leaving her on her own and she learns her mother was a powerful wizard, she must defend the Soul Key, a key that is part of a artifact that allows the user to control life and death, sought after by Duke Bloodstone (Daniel Radcliffe). Penny finds the help of Barry Brookshire (Finn Wolfhard), an antisocial, pompous and vain detective of the paranormal, who’s family is renowned for their detective work along with his partner/caretaker, the neurotic satyr, Rex (Tom Hiddleston) and Brookshire’s rival in the detective game Selestia (Sasha Lane) as the four races against time to stop Duke from controlling the natural balance of life.

Despite the save the world premise, Hirsch says a lot of the heart of the film comes from Barry and Penny as the two form an unlikely friendship along the way as both want to live up their families expectations and it’s in a way a coming of age story as well. Hirsch says the film itself is a mix of Harry Potter and his own Gravity Falls. Hirsch also says they’ll also be quite a bit of horror in the film as well, noting that during reshoots.

We got a sneak look and some of the visuals are incredible, noting some highlights like a really cool acid trip sequence, the land of the dead as well in particular a scene the protagonist are in an MC Esher like library.

As for the rating, Irving said “At first we wanted a tough PG like Coraline or Rango, not the ones that go to films that don’t deserve it and we are leaning towards the tough PG but PG-13 isn’t out of the question.” Irving confirms the film is coming in September as the September has always been a good luck spot for the studio and to benefit from Halloween. Irving says you’ll definitely get a better look at it during the Y5 Event.

Barry Brookshire and The Case Of The Soul Key arrives in theaters September Y5.

"Realms of the North"

Spoiler

"The second son of Odin is Baldur, and good things are to be said of him."

"He is best, and all praise him; he is so fair of feature, and so bright, that light shines from him. A certain herb is so white that it is likened to Baldur's brow; of all grasses it is whitest, and by it thou mayest judge his fairness, both in hair and in body. He is the wisest of the Æsir, and the fairest-spoken and most gracious; and that quality attends him, that none may gainsay his judgments. He dwells in the place called Breidablik, which is in heaven; in that place may nothing unclean be."

- Snorri Sturluson, Gylfaginning

"Baldur is dead."

"Long live Baldur."

The Odyssey, War of the Gods, The Scavenger Wars, Pillars of Eternity...

The word "epic" tends to get thrown around a lot in CAYOM.

"What's one more to add to the pile?" [Sebastian] Peters asks, sitting there with that big, Gerard Butler-esque grin on his face. "I mean after Greek, Egypt, space, pure video game fantasy... What about Norse?"

Up until The Scavenger Wars (and to a smaller extent, Ripper), original properties hadn't exactly been Cookie Pictures bread and butter. VoltronDuckverse and the two live-action remakes of The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Road to El Dorado a few years back were all big hits and well received, of course, but if there was one thing The Scavenger Wars managed to prove, is that relying on established brands is good to start with, but what will define a studio are the new ideas brought to the table.

On Tuesday we discussed the much-anticipated return to the world of The Scavenger Wars. On Saturday, we took you to the skies and faced both external and internal conflicts with SkyRiders. Next week, we'll detail the path Cookie Pictures is taking with Voltron, bending its lore in new and unexpected ways.

But today... let us head north.

Scandinavia.A2002074.1005.500m.jpg

"I've always wanted to set a fantasy movie somewhere on the Scandinavian peninsula" Peters explains regarding the choice of setting. "It has this allure to it you wouldn't find elsewhere."

"Like all great stories, it begins with someone's death. Okay, maybe not ALL great stories, but this one certainly does."

All of the nine realms are in mourning over the death of Baldur, the fairest of all the gods. Loki, god of mischief, jealous of Baldur's grace, had tricked the blind god Hodur into firing an arrow made from mistletoe at his brother. As Baldur's body was about to be burned on a pyre, his soul be sent to Hel, Odin had whispered in his son's ear the key to a riddle that had never been answered, and one Odin would never reveal to anyone else. Baldur's wife, Nanna, threw herself onto the pyre to join her husband in Hel, and together they would both be forced to await Ragnarök, the end of all things, before they could return to a new world together.

Hodur was slain for his crime, despite having been falsely led, and Loki was to face punishment as well, but where the story of The Scandinavia Chronicles diverges is that Loki escaped justice, vanishing from Asgard and hiding somewhere in Midgard never to be seen again.

All of Midgard had looked up to Baldur's grace. His purity had guided the people of Midgard down a just and fair path. His flower, the titular Baldur's Brow, could be found all over the realm and was a reminder that his light was shining upon them.

When Baldur fell, all of Midgard, much to Loki's delight, descended into chaos. As the gods had left Midgard when the people most needed them to mourn, the people of Midgard retaliated and destroyed every specimen of Baldur's Brow they could find. Soon a flower that graced almost every yard had gone extinct.

But one survived. One that grew the day Baldur was slain. The day Helga was born.

Tripleurospermum_Perforatum.jpg

Baldur's Brow, commonly known as mayweed, is reimagined to be a far more beautiful flower in this version.

Fast forward many years. Scandinavia, the part of Midgard said to be closest to Asgard, is in a constant state of conflict between its nations: Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. Far to the north of Scandinavia an island known as Iceland, holding the gate to Hel, feels the tremors of its neighbors. Everything is in disorder as it is said that Ragnarök is drawing near, and only the return of Baldur before this time and the uniting of all the nations could stop the end of all things.

Briefly interrupting the history lesson, Peters explains that this Scandinavia is not one of vikings and barbarians one would often associate with stories revolving around Norse mythology. "We've combined Norse mythology with the actual history and lore of Scandinavia itself. Scandinavia has evolved way past the age of vikings, well into the middle ages, even at the cusp of the industrial age. The creatures and gods of Norse mythology have never left this earth, but Midgard still reeling from the supposed betrayal has chosen to move on without them."

Hera Hilmar and Stellan Skarsgård

In the wilderlands of Denmark, far from the capital of Copenhagen, lives a young woman named Helga (Hera Hilmar) with her father Björk (Stellan Skarsgård) in a secluded cottage, far from civilization. Many years ago, Helga had been born with the nose and tail of a pig, and the inhabitants of a nearby town believing her to be a troll cast her and her father out. They've lived secluded since, with Helga caring for her father and her snow white pet deer named Maks as they grew older. On top of this, Helga had been caring for a flower that had somehow managed to survive all the winters. The last remaining Baldur's Brow.

One night, Odin seems to have appeared in her sleep, telling Helga that if she wishes to stop Ragnarök, she must bring the flower to the gates of Hel for it is the key to bringing Baldur back before Ragnarök could take place. None believe her story besides her father, and with the sea route to Iceland being as treacherous as it is, the only route to take would be the one with the least seafaring, from the very north end of Norway. Despite her father's illness, the two begin setting out for Norway, but are forced to journey through the rest of Denmark and Sweden first.

Traveling through Denmark is no easy task. "Something is rotten in the state of Denmark" doesn't even begin to describe it. Corruption haunts every facet of the kingdom, its king is a lunatic (more on him a little later) and the two largest cities, Copenhagen and Malmø, a massive fortress on one end and an industrial hellscape on the other connected by a massive bridge, are beginning to revolt against one another. It's suspected that the revolt in Malmø is being influenced by the Swedes, for they had set their sights on it for many years.

1920px-%C3%98resund_Bridge_-_%C3%98resun

The Øresund Bridge, today connecting Malmö, Sweden with Copenhagen, Denmark, is reimagined as a magical bridge and a point of contention between the two cities.

Loki, still in hiding and having caught wind of the plan to bring back Baldur, is furious, for the long-standing chaos of Midgard had very much pleased him, and knowing that Ragnarök was around the corner it would mean he could seize control once it was all over. His first attempts to intervene with Helga, her father and her newfound travel companions (Peters says we'll learn more about them on November 17th) involves among other things sending the Midgard Serpent to attack the bridge. This however attracts the attention of the rest of Asgard, and to avoid being caught Loki's next few attempts to intervene have to be more subtle.

091917--Jake-Gyllenhaal-and-taylor-Swift

While the human cast is played almost entirely by actors native to Scandinavia, Peters wanted the gods and the mythological creatures to be more of an all-star ensemble. Mass Effect's Jake Gyllenhaal has been cast to play Loki.

Enter Erik, the mad king of Denmark, the primary antagonist of Baldur's Brow.

MV5BN2QwYzFlZGMtODdkMy00YTExLThhMTAtNjEy

Lars Mikkelsen, brother of Mads, portrays Erik.

Despite Copenhagen being said to be near impenetrable, Erik is still left paranoid over the increasing threat of the Swedes, not helped by the situation over in Malmø. To combat the Swedes, Erik had ordered the construction of a new fortress, set miles north of Malmø, featuring an obscenely tall tower dubbed the Kärnan. It was Erik's wish that the Kärnan was made fully impenetrable, and even though this could never actually be proven, the fortress kept getting rebuilt and fortified over the years to meet his impossible demands, and Denmark went bankrupt because of it. Now he stands with a kingdom in tatters and a fortress no one's sure has any actual use against the Swedes.

Loki appears in disguise, offering Erik a spell that would make his tower truly impenetrable. Erik gladly takes up on his offer and is led by Loki into hunting down Helga and the flower, unaware of the consequences Loki's spell would bring.

"A lot of this is still in the development phase" Peters mentions. "What you got was an outline that covers most of the first two acts of this first film. We're pretty much building the whole thing as a trilogy, and we hope if the film's successful we get to explore much more of this land and its mythological components."

MV5BMTU4MjYxNzc4Ml5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNjQzMV5BMTkyMTgxNzIwOF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNjYy

Norwegian director André Øvredal, known for "Troll Hunter", is set to direct at least the first part of The Scandinavia Chronicles. It is not yet decided upon if he will return for the follow-ups should they get made. He is joined by Odyssey helmer Matt Reeves in a producing role.

"One thing we have to keep in mind though is to not let the worldbuilding go overboard and overshadow the story" Peters continues. "We've definitely been working hard on creating a world that upstages even that of The Scavenger Wars, but given the scope and stakes at play, it is important that we create characters audiences can root and care for. But unlike SkyRiders and Scavenger Wars we're not quite there yet with Scandinavia, however I hope we'll soon be."

Nevertheless, The Scandinavia Chronicles: Baldur's Brow is set for release in July of Year 5. Peters promises a far more finalized version will turn up at the Cookie Pictures Power Hour on November 17th.

Jakey G definitely can do a Loki vibe in the more charismatic, manipulative way as opposed to Hiddleston's out and out trickster.

I thought if he was already going to be in Voltron I might as well make Summer Y5 the season of Jakey G.:sparta:

By the way here's what I intend the trilogy to be structured like:

Spoiler

Film 1 - Denmark

Film 2 - Sweden and Norway

Film 3 - Iceland and Ragnarök

Jakey G is the overarching baddie but each film will have its own primary villain.

Nutted

Spoiler

“It’s about time we gave her a movie” said Chris McKay, director of Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive and Sir Thymes Time as well as head of Endless Entertainment’s animation arm; Endless Animation.

Endless Animation has always been the golden goose of Endless Entertainment. Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive is the biggest non Duckverse animated film in CAYOM both domestically and worldwide. The GameVerse franchise has made nice coin for them, and Skylanders next year will only help the flow. This year, Can You Imagine? is the studio’s biggest critical hit (85 on Metacritic) and is looking to be a front runner for Best Animated Feature and the studio is throughly campaigning for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay as well and their co-production with Laika, A Fool’s Errand is also getting some critical love. Next year, Endless Animation is releasing Larrikins, the animated musical set in Australia (February), Skylanders: Unite, the Avengers Of The GameVerse (May) and The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl for December.

Daron Nefcy (Star Vs. The Forces Of Evil, Netflix’s Aera: Rising) is making her feature film debut with Squirrel Girl, and Squirrel Girl will use Endless Animation’s Worldmeander software used for Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive that blends both computer animation with hand drawn traditional animation, but the software has been updated for the film to emulate Spider-Man: Into The Spider Verse, comic book like aesthetic.

The Unbeatble Squirrel Girl, in terms of humor wants to use Nefcy’s sense of it as well as some would say, an all ages Deadpool taking shots at superhero movies, animated movies as well as some blockbusters today but also having tons of non shade humor. “The plot of The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl is very simple” says Nefcy. “She becomes a drug kingpin and must fight Johnny Test’s Bling Bling Boy and Poison and Wine’s Nicole’s daughter for surpremacy all wholeness dealing with her crippling sugar addiction.” says Nefcy joking.

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl is about Squirrel Girl (voiced by Oscar winner Anna Kendrick (who also starred in Endless Animation’s Battletoads), a typical superhuman hero with squirrel like senses as well as the ability to talk to squirrels, questioning her role in life, and although she has saved the world multiple times (one of which involved befriending Galactus (Justin Roiland) to stop him from consuming Earth, beating up Thanos and foiling Kang The Conqueror’s real estate time travel scheme) is often looked down by most people (despite the friendship from most of her heroes comrades, they still tend to overlook her), and not to mention no form of media love as well as dealing with her own issues. However when superheroes all over the universe are getting kidnapped and some time mishaps, it’s up to Squirrel Girl, her two squirrel BFFs, Monkey Joe (Lil Rel Howery) and Tippy Toe (Samantha Ireland (RWBY and Camp Camp fame) and Dana, (Vera Farmiga), her reluctant human roommate, to travel across the universe on a self discovery to save the heroes.

”Although this is the theme in many animated movies, Squirrel Girl is about learning to love yourself and find what makes you special” says Nefcy “Not to mention, it is a very funny film. We got everything you’d want in a movie; gut busting laughs, insane and inventive action, some thickness and songs as well.” Nefcy says Seth MacFarlane (Howard The Duck) and Cardi B (Dazzler) get a pretty good musical number.

The rating is confirmed to be PG but McKay says EA is working on a PG-13 Animated flick soon.

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl comes in theaters December Y5.
