I don't usually get all that affected by the "This movie is now X years old" posts, but this honestly threw me for a loop. I can still picture myself being nine years old and watching the movie's premiere at my grandparents house. Where has the time gone?

My wife and I have a 5-6 year age gap, no one my age cares but find people i know in teens think it weird and ask why I don't marry someone my age?

However, compared to previous generations most of Gen Z people are going to die lonely and virgins so makes sense why they just complain about other people relationships endlessly.

(I know it a bit mean to say but Gen Z has the highest rates of being alone and not having relationships then any generation so far)

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/01/23/loneliness-is-rising-younger-workers-and-social-media-users-feel-it-most.html

(there was another survey showing something like 25% of people age 18-30 never had sex which was like 2.5 times higher then 2000s and 1990s)

All that exposure to pretty hardcore adult content as tweens or younger ended up making some people very uncomfortable with the reality of sex? Especially when you're young, it can all seem a bit terrifying. So, it's just easier for them to make up broad "rules" about why all age gaps are bad no matter what, that way, neither person will have more "experience" than the other and no one will get hurt. Of course, life doesn't actually work this way.

Predatory situations are bad obviously, but their deep aversion to age gaps isn't necessarily about that. It feels like people projecting a teenage concept of age differences (where 2-3 years can be a big deal) onto the rest of society.

I always find it interesting that as society gets more progressive in some ways a lot of people's attitudes on sex becoming bit victorian and prudish.

Yeah, every few weeks someone goes viral on Twitter arguing that love/sex scenes in movies and TV are bad and someone comments that there shouldn't even be kissing scenes. "You can watch porn to see that!" You go to the profile and it's not some One Million Moms type, but some 20 year old mad that there's romance in their CBM.

Not to say that there aren't ever issues with those scenes (onscreen or off), but it feels like some people are desperate to go back to the olden days of film censorship: married couples in twin beds, fading to black as the man and woman's lips touch, all bad behavior punished onscreen.

What's funny is that I remember during late 2017/early 2018 when the #MeToo era was in full swing there were articles about how the release of the last Fifty Shades around that time was the last ride for the "sexy" studio movie. There were even reports that A Star Is Born was edited into something relatively chaste after Weinstein's fall (the movie was finished almost a year before it was released).

I feel like Deep Water was an attempt at trying to bring the "sexy studio thriller" back but the movie was ultimately sent to die on a streaming service (though I suspect it'll live on as a camp classic given how utterly ridiculous the whole movie is). Too bad it didn't go to theaters like it was supposed to cause that D CinemaScore grade would've been fun.

Even before #MeToo, the sex scenes had largely migrated to American TV shows and away from the big studio movies.

I remember hearing that about A Star Is Born, and there was a glimpse of a love scene in one of the trailers that's not in the movie. OTOH, with it being an anticipated title starring Gaga, the fake rumors were flying* and the description of that allegedly "sexy" test screening cut sounded OTT for mainstream Warner Bros awards bait. Still, it ended up being a pretty F-word heavy movie for the sort of story it is, so I wouldn't be totally surprised if even more adult content got left on the cutting room floor.

* Can't wait to see the crazy speculation that stems from the convergence of Gaga, DC, and musical fans!

I don't think anything can prepare us for whatever craziness awaits us re: Joker 2. The first released photos (whether it's from the studio or the paps) will break the Internet lol.

I think lack of sex stuff in big budget movies is not just due to twitter controversy

It also allows a film to play more over seas where it could get banned or such if it has to much sex.

but makes me wonder you likely wont get an iconic shot like this again in a blockbuster (likely for best but its stuck in our heads lol)

Being an only okay (at best) actress is what doomed Megan Fox's career in the long run. At least she's not completely irrelevant in 2022, even if that's largely because of her romance with Machine Gun Kelly.

You can become a big star on Sex Appeal alone for a while; but you have to bring something else to the table to have longitivity.

Look at how fast Bo Derek rose to stardom based on looks and sex appeal alone; and how quickly she fell.

Megan Fox's career fell off a cliff after Transformers 2 because shes a shit actress and called a big and connected Hollywood director Hitler

Yeah thing is she was just seen super crazy hot in those films she tried to do films after which were not good and tried to sell based on her sex appeal.

Thing is Micheal Bay movies in that time, Megan Fox was simply eye candy in those films but her image and look was memorable to audiences at least so people at least know of her even 10 -15 years on.

I loved The Winslow Boy when I saw it a few years ago. Immaculate direction of someone else's material from him there. Need to watch more myself. I also remember State and Main being very funny.

Really only discovered his work recently (saw Untouchables years ago but didn't know he wrote it) after watching Ronin a few weeks ago. A little surprised his directorial efforts aren't as well known as the films he's just written, but I do guess the films he directed are less accessible. The two I saw are Homicide and Spartan. Both wonderfully directed (some insanely blocked oners in the latter espescially). Homicide quite possibly one of the most interesting films I've seen on Jewish identity (captures this almost contradicatory element to it) ever.
