Watched Gangs of New York tonight because it was one of the last major DDL joints and Marty movies I hadn't seen and YIKES. I love you Marty but this might be his worst major movie ever. Just a total mess of ideas that don't go anywhere. Brings up alot of stuff about race, class, country, pride, and I don't even know what and just doesn't say anything about it. It can't even decide whether Bill the Butcher is a noble, complex bad guy or just pure evil from scene to scene. Also, Cameron Diaz is the worst. Also also, this movie ends up being a sympathetic ode to rioters and the gangs but uhhhhhh they lynched 120 black people while shouting racial epithets?? DDL is awesome, and the production design and scope is so ambitious and outstanding. But otherwise this felt like a complete misfire.

It came out on my 17th birthday, so I forgive its flaws.

Man, carnival, duuuudeeee. I had to put up with my best friend's brother-in-law's racist homophobic rant. He was very drunk, so every time I told him I disagreed with his crap he just laughed and kept going.

Drunk people suck.

I actually enjoy Gangs, but part of the reason it may seem confused, is that it was taken out of Scorsese's hands and butchered by Weinstein (urgh!), a lot was changed including the score. Will probably never see the original version however, because Marty isn't a fan of directors cut, and considers the theatrical released version, his version.

Hugo is pretty great. I had my doubts about Scorsese making a family-friendly movie, but it is indeed family-friendly without sacrificing any of Scorsese's dynamic style.

I'm still waiting for more people to get around to Silence. I would say that its place in the Underrated Scorsese Canon is all but assured, but it's a movie that probably plays way better if you have some understanding of Jesuit theology and fairly heady Christology going in, not unlike The Last Temptation of Christ.

I didn't realize how poorly Versace has been doing ratings-wise; the most recent episode only got a 0.3 :jeb!: The next two seasons will be much bigger with Katrina and Clinton/Lewinski.

Don't think F/X cares about how it's doing ratings-wise. Most people will end up catching (I'd say "binge-watch" but it's probably too intense and upsetting to plow through multiple episodes in a row) it later in the year when it starts to rack up the nominations and possible wins anyway.

My official ketchup pizza review:

@Goffe the fuck you smoking?

This reminds me. Just last night I met someone from Brazil at a friend's birthday party.

They wanted me to inform this forum that only people from Rio and one other part of Brazil (I forgot the name, my bad) like to put ketchup and/or mayo on their pizza.

And that those from São Paulo, a part of Brazil will a large Italian population, know their pizza, and therefore also know that ketchup/mayo are completely unacceptable toppings on pizza.

Also we saw Fifty Shades Freed (From Captivity) tonight and the nicest thing I can say is that the audience was a hoot. That ice cream scene later in the movie got everybody all excited lmao.

Everything I've heard about that scene alone has me excited to hate-watch it this week. :lol:

This is a bad take.

Hope you get a good crowd. My audience reacted like it was a damn horror movie at times, especially when the villain with the oh so sinister name of Jack Hyde appeared.

Too bad for me that the biggest laugh came within the first 15 minutes when we find out that E.L. James actually decided to give one of her characters the name Boyce Fox (who I must clarify is a best-selling author and not a gay porn star).
