Krissy was there much humor in the film?

None, It’s grim!

People on the Buzz topic showed us that US was going to open between 70-80 when the tracking was around $50m, YOU were the one who kept claiming that it would not do these numbers because the 'official' tracking was in the $50m range and once again is doing the same shit.

Actually they were saying the presales were indicating $100m+ too at one point.

It’s because we don’t have a lot of horror comps playing at that level.

Not really, there was only one person who said it would open above $100m. Most of them said it would open on the same range as Halloween since it would be more front than your typical Horror movie and that's what ended happening. :)

Not really, some of the % cops were over a huge range.

Also, it is difficult to track pre sales for horror.

The thread is being derailed by “Us” chat for some reason.

But I should make this clear that humour would’ve been really out of place from like 15 minutes in. Pet Sematary gets dark, fast!

It would be hilarious (but awesome) if, of all the horror films with potential to open to 100-million that we have had recently (Halloween and US being the most obvious ones), it were Pet Sematary the one that actually managed that feat, That would be a Jurassic-World-style surprise, especially in the realm of horror and because the buzz for this doesn't seem as palpable as Us or It. Then again, this has the brand recognition (Stephen King) and it follows the biggest-grossing SK adaptation ever.

Who knows what happens, but I will be closely watching this film's box office.

There's nothing indicating it will open with $60m, let alone with $100m. JW had that PG13 rating helping to explode, and it being a four quadrant movie, PS doesn't have the same luxury. Anything above $40m would be breakout territory for this.

Just remember guys, this opening to like 28M woudnt make it a flop at all. Sky-high expectations can only lead to disappointment.

Sure. But it would be the equivalent of God 2 opening at $70m, not a disappointing at all, but a letdown considering you (and me) knows there's potencial for much more. ;)

Well Pet Sematary is one of King's most iconic novels, alongside Shining and It. I believe Shazam will open first place, but I wouldn't be surprised if Pet Sematary has a strong opening in its own right.

Is it? If you read the first pages of this topic you'll see several members saying it wouldn't do huge numbers because it wasn't one of the iconic King classics.

Shining

It

Cujo

Salem's Lot

Pet Sematary

Stand

Christine

Needful Things

They're all iconic novels. All sold really well and a lot of them had interconnected stories and characters.

what about Carrie? That movie was bigger than any of those adaptations and is a horror classic.

Speaking of The Stand, surprise that WB didn't speed it up after IT breakout.
