And the theaters themselves dont care that much i think. Seeing the raw numbers, a 94M OW and 210-260M final gross is very good for them and the overall box office. If that movie woudnt have been JL but something like Two Men and three Pandas it woundt be that different for them i think.

Yeah, that isn't true at all.  They aren't happy with a roughly 50% less than expected opening that caused other good movies to abandon ship from release dates leaving a way too empty slate leading up to Dec. 15th.

Theaters are like any other business and have to budget for training new seasonal employees, staffing of all positions, extra product orders in anticipation of a busy date, extra managers on duty to cover shifts, projection help, longer hours, etc.....

When a movie like Justice League goes from a $150m/$400m anticipated movie to to a $93m/$225m actual, that costs theater owners real money.  Many of them had likely staffed in anticipation of being busy all day and subsequently lost money on labor and excess product that was prepared in hopes of a certain number of customers.  The industry is already down from last year and many were hoping for a late recovery, but Justice League killed a solid month of expected gains.

never had a thanksgiving holdover , 2nd or 3rd week holdover drop on their wednesday from their tuesday, even twilight had some mild-increase on thanksgiving wednesday from tues, and $158m CF had that increment too, with 40%+ increase on tuesday, I see no reason to suggest that JL is going to be an exception, that $10.5m is not logic

I can confirm this. At least at my theatre anyways. I was running numbers with our GM last week and I told him to go to about half with what he had budgeted. Even with Wonder overperforming, we were still under budget, but I saw him Sunday night and he thanked me for "really saving our ass this week"

On the positive side, Wonder and Coco could very well pick up JL's slack: JL comes in a solid 150-200m short of expectations, but Wonder and Coco both exceed expectations by possibly 100m+ each.

That was a good save and many others weren't as lucky because they don't really have people that understand and can predict the numbers.

Can't really blame them for last week, it was way below even the lowest of tracking.

I'm guessing most theaters probably expected like 150-200 for Coco and what, maybe 60-80 for Wonder? If Wonder hits something like 170+ and Coco 250+, then there you have the makeup for JL's underperformance. Not to mention Ragnarok going over 300, which had to be the most theaters were expecting for that.

I can also see that at my theater. Unlike most CBMs this year, JL had no 3D not even in Ultrascreen so more tickets could be sold. From anecdotal evidence it look likely to do big numbers there. They gave it a shitton of showtimes too and the Thanksgiving schedule ready. However, after last week, instead of dropping only 5-6 showings, it lost half of them and as of today (but shown Sunday on the site), JL has to share it’s PLF with Coco.

Continue following tracking and telling your boss this stuff, helping with financial planning

Who knows, he might give you a raise/promotion...

I'm a boss and I would if an employee did that sort of thing :sparta:
