Best Picture Predictions - 2018

I think he'll miss nomination if BKKK continues to perform as tepid with awards as it did so far. It seems that critics consider Green Book the important movie/movie about race relations and don't care to support another. Like, there can be only one or something. Also, his category has 3 almost locked contenders (Ali, Elliott, Grant) so 2 more spots could go virtually to anyone from stronger movies.

I know but he was so gooood

he'll probably get nominated because beyond the three you mentioned there's not a lot there. probably him + sam rockwell in vice are the last two spots.

i wish i thought that performance was good. just watching creed 2 this weekend, which he's great in i wish the buzz was for that, reminds me how much i like him usually. but i've seen black panther 3 times and i still think he's pretty bad in it!

Things to infer from the Detroit winners:

  • Eighth Grade may be more of a contender than [at least myself] previously thought. The film itself is getting many notices and Josh Hamilton has entered the race for Best Supporting Actor.
  • Ethan Hawke continues to climb.
  • Toni Colette receives another award and, thus, continues to climb as well.
  • Same with Regina King.
  • Vice wins three awards, and the film itself keeps itself anchored in the conversation, at least for now.
  • Green Book is still holding on to Original Screenplay.
  • Three Identical Strangers maintains its footing in a surprisingly competitive year for documentary films.
  • Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse gains another win and continues progress towards being in certifiable contention for the Oscar win (!!!).

It's really exciting that Isle of Dogs won one of the Animated Feature awards. I feel like if it didn't win at least a few of them, there could easily be an accident as to where it shockingly misses the Oscar nomination. Or maybe that's just me being paranoid.

But First Man gets a win for the music, and that's interesting. Emma Stone gets a Best Supporting Actress win right after Rachel Weisz got a win yesterday, and that's also interesting.

(That's a lot of wins for The Favourite, come to think of it.)

it'll appear with Chicago critics cause it takes place in Chicago. In fact, someone from that organization tweeted that it got about 6-7 nominations.

it would have done better at the boxoffice if it was actually about the heist and if the pet was a cat. :sparta:

complaints are that the movie is not about the heist save maybe 10 min tops and is much more about other things such as some boring subplot about Colin Farrell and his dad. also, complaints are that the movie is boring, story dumb, twist ridiculous, dog annoying, cast has zero chemistry and nobody is likable (not surprising cause Davis, Rodriguez and Erivo always look angry and resentful on and off the screen). I haven't seen it have no intention to cause B word is always a turn off. Not gonna pay to doze off.

Just now, CoolioD1 said:

that's not even a little true. why are all your posts just regurgitating dumb points from dumbasses that you read elsewhere? c'mon now.

because I haven't seen the movie so I can't claim those points as mine. but nonetheless, if so many people don't like it and WOM obviously isn't strong (it isn't a disaster but it isn't strong enough for such a poor opener to recover) than something didn't come together. When even Awards Watch that was super hyped to love it admits it's a disappointing movie than yeah, time to support something that actually deserves it.
