What is, to you, the greatest action movie of the past 20 years?  Because I don't think there are many with a much better reception... Box Office is one metric but the Academy was another -- winning 6 Oscars, nominated for 10, is no small feat, no matter which category they are.  Need I mention all the other worldwide accolades?  So the industry/Miller's peers clearly agreed that this film was a great accomplishment.  Doesn't mean you have to love the picture, but Box Office isn't everything.

Off the top of my head, TDK, Edge of tomorrow, Borne 2&3, John Wick, Bad Boys 2 and The Raid are all more engaging. If I had to pick a favourite it would likely be Casino Royale. I wasn't emotionally invested in any of the characters in Mad Max which prevented me from loving it. It also felt like it didnt utilise it's R rating as well as it could have.

100% never understood the praise for Mad Max. The Dark Knight, Batman Begins, Casino Royale, Gladiator, and many others are 100x better.

Not smoking helps a lot with aging.

That and not having to be around a bunch of smokers, either. If we were still having to use lots of yellows and browns in interior decorating to hide the tar stains, not smoking on an individual level would only go so far.

Then add even a basic skincare routine, and wearing decent sunscreen or otherwise avoiding UV, and it starts to add up.

He's also one of the few Hollywood action dudes not juiced to the gills in roids. He probably take fillers though

None of the films you mentioned are even half as efficient in their storytelling as Fury Road (Casino Royale is probably the closest tho but still a mile away). Hell, studio films in general haven't been that economic in that regard since like Jaws.

I adore Fury Road and it's one of my all time favorites, but this is such a bizarre way to sell it.

Thinking 14*12 = $168 for the 4-day. Also looked at POTC 3 for comps, and did it release on Thursday or is that just previews? BOM and the-numbers saying it released on Thursday but Wikipedia and IMDB list it as Friday release.

It was just previews. Box Office Report lists it as such and I remember this from personal memory. BOM just has it listed separately because 8 PM previews back then weren't really as common as they are now. You look at Iron Man or Independence Day or other non-midnight movies pre-2013, and it's the same story. Man of Steel however has it listed previously because of that Wal-Mart BS.

Nothing bizarre about calling a movie economic and efficient, espescially when so many movies today are filled with bloat. It's just what sets it apart from any of the other modern films people try to compare it with.

It's a weird way to discuss art in my opinion.

Messy art is cool and like something like Tenet is in my top 5 action films of the past 20 years, but Fury Road is just stunningly old-school in it's storytelling, closer to the Westerns of the early half of the 20th century than anything today. It's just what imo sets it apart from anything else recent people compare it with. I don't think this movie will or any of the films the original poster mentioned achieve that.
