The Panda
Just now, Daxtreme said: I wouldn't even be surprised if it's better than the one the oscars use... I know Oscars use a preferential ballot for Picture, but it’s not points based (which I prefer). Top 5 vote counts get in, then movies with 5% number 1 votes get in. Every scoring system will have some flaws. The Oscars biggest imo is it doesn’t seem to consider where people are ranking the film unless they placed it first. However, an awards ceremony is different than a list, so I’m not sure if the scoring systems are super comparable. For example on this list there were plenty of movies that get lots of top 5 support but lacked number 1 support or tons of top 25 support but lacked top 5 support. I wanted to be able to account for if people were placing a movie in their upper quartile of 100 and not just their number 1. I also didn’t want to do the messy points system where every rank gets a different score (1 -100, 2 -99, 3 -98, etc) that’s just messy and doesn’t really reflect how people think imo. I probably don’t have a real distinct preference between my 76 and 77 movies, but I probably do between 11 and 10, or 1 and 2. I’ll probably stick to this scoring system whenever I do a list again in the system. It was simple for me and seemed match how people think (as it was more focused on grouping a set of movies together rather than a definitive rank for every single one.)

Im a little hesitant to reveal everything below 250 simply because I only formally vote counted and sorted up to it. Everything else is just clumped in point sets and I have no intention of making an exact rank for 1600+ movies. Thus I don’t want to give an impression that one movie ranked higher than another below the 250 mark simply because it’s name appeared higher on the list. Also, technically the movies that came in dead last were the ones that got 0 votes. Like Magic Mike
The Futurist
How can a movie that has absolutely no ending or closure about anything can be considered that great ? This is a Part I after all, nothing more, nothing less. You are all very forgiving in Middle-Earth.
The Futurist
Fantastic Work Panda. I should have participated. Would you mind to do a studio breakdown of the Top 100 ?

peludo
Out of likes, but terrific thread @Auteur Panda Thank you very much for your hard work Concerning list, shocked and really glad to see FOTR and TDK on top. I had used to see ESB and Raiders on top, but while I love both, I prefer others in those sagas (A new hope and Last Crusade). FOTR is my favorite modern film and the one of the trilogy who best catch the novel. It is the perfect blockbuster and my best experience in a theater. I absolutely love the trilogy, but FOTR is special. I have it at #6 spot, but since my top 5 are older films, which do not use to be so massively liked here, I am very glad with the result.

Welcome to the adderall generation. Really though, this has been the most fun I've ever had in a thread on BOT. Thank you so much Panda for all the effort you put into this list, and thanks to the orange posters for misreading/straw manning a pretty low level point into a meme. I never knew I had that ability to really touch a deep nerve inside the BOT community!

Juby
Pretty damn good Top250 right there. users of BOT forum I'm not a big fan of LOTR - and this genre in general - and my favourite is The Two Towers, but the list looks great anyway. Sad that Batman Begins, RoboCop, Braveheart, Casino Royale and Kill Bill didn't make the Top100, but I am glad both Terminators were high. From Top10 my favorite film is probably Titanic, so its #8 is also great (shame it wasn't #1). @Auteur Panda Great job!

Brainbug
Fellowship, while not my personal favourite of the trilogy, is a perfect film and deserves this spot. TDK is a good number 2 as well. Edited May 22, 2018 by Brainbug
