A Cap vs Iron Man Movie with 85% of the Avengers wasn’t marketed as an Avengers movie?

Here is an illustration of this topic of conversation:

Civil War was marketed like an Avengers movie. It showcased the other characters and the addition of Black Panther and Spider-Man and we had the same "Roll call" type TV spots the first two Avengers movie had

Robert Downey Jr of course was the main draw. Civil War wouldn't have sniffed 400m domestic and 1 billion worldwide without him

Winter soldier did 715 million worldwide and each marvel sequel, with the exception of AOU, has done better worldwide than the previous film in the franchise. If Thor can go from 670 to 850 million I don’t see how a “proper” (oh God) captain America 3 of similar quality with winter soldier couldn’t have done very close to a billion.

Whether CW was viewed as Avengers 2.5 is highly debatable.

But no way Avengers 3 makes over 600 m DOM without Thanos.

He's the MVP similar to Heath Ledger in TDK.

Also the phase 3 momentum played a huge role.

It was The Avengers build up on steroids.

No one said Iron Man having a lead role wasn't a huge draw and reason for it doing so much better than the other CA films. That however has nothing to do with it being an Avengers film and sold as one. It wasn't an Avengers film, plain and simple. The reasons why have been stated countless times by me and several others, but most of all the results compared to the actual Avengers films speak for themselves.

Amazing how what seemed to be the biggest problem , in theory, of infinity war (that purple funny looking bad guy) turned out to be its biggest asset and a pop culture worldwide icon overnight.

I got a good laugh seeing the “Thanos will return” at the end of the credits...

10.63 for Mon + Tues.  558.73 total.

4.0 Wed + 3.52 Thurs = 566.25 21-day total.  < I'd think somewhere around 596 after this weekend and 600 before Solo, but if Infinity War somehow collapses this weekend,

So you’re saying $650-705m finish is still a possibility!?

Great post, I am a bit annoyed when people make fun of the friendship between Steve and Bucky, two guys that grew up together with Bucky actually being the strong character and protecting Steve (and trying to get him a decent date) before Steve became captain America. Bucky was basically the anti-bully, the opposite of the “handsome/popular teenager who mocks and bullies the nerds” that we have seen in about a billion u.s films and yet some people make fun of that ? Whatever...

Oh and I am happy that CW in its first 2/3 was a direct continuation of WS.

I mean you guys can spend all day explaining why Bucky is awesome, but I watched the damn movie and just didn't care about his and Cap's bond and found it boring, it's not that I didn't "get it".

CA:CW legs gets it to only 646

BP legs gets it to 759...... BP legs will improve a bit though so /shrug.

BP legs is wishful thinking at this point.  But still nice to look at.

True, but Avengers is still possible, it won't top The Avengers 4th weekend since that was it's Memorial day but it should make enough more on it's 5th to even out.
