MCU has been setup so that it would take multiple consecutive horribly received films before it will see its first bomb. As long as that doesn't happen, there's no way anything MCU can bomb anytime in like the next 5 years.

Technically The Incredible Hulk bombed. But no one even remembers it’s part of the MCU so it’s all good

Still maintain this is peak Marvel. Perhaps some slightly higher results next year, but it's basically at a plateau as of now. The downhill will come.

Two 700M dom movies within 3 months is the peak? A daring take

There was a sale on MCU movies in the Xbox store and TIH wasn't even listed :hahaha:

And a daring response, the third time in a row someone makes it.

So it sounds like we're all in agreement. It would be unreasonable to expect Marvel to ascend much higher than they are now.

It’s a New Line production, New Line budgets are way lower than WB proper.

Are you saying Shazam’s powers are going to be discount looking? Because in essence we’re talking about a character with a Superman-ish powerset.

But I believe they were all original and that's what truly matters.

Funny how those movies cost so much yet the stars of those movies (Cage, Sandler, Travolta) are now stuck in mostly non-multiplex fare almost 20 years later.

To be fair that might be because of Universal still having distribution rights to it, thus it could be on sale in general for cheaper than the other Disney owned MCU movies

....that’s like saying an upcoming Superman movie will be cheaper than DP2.

Now NEW MUTANTS, what’s the budget on that?

New Mutants probably originally cost in the 50-60m range but after all the reshoots it will probably end up over 100m

Yea, TIH usually kicks around $9.99 when not on sale.

Marvel Studios has a better relationship with Sony.  Even so, Sony discounts SM:HC in a way Disney does not the rest of the MCU.

Looking at Best Buy for the new 4k releases and TIH and SM:HC are both $17.99 while all the Disney released MCU films are $27.99 - $29.99

And Arad claims he had to twist Fox's arm to get it made using Blade's lower key success and the lure that if they didn't act some other studio would pick up the rights.  Even so the First X-Men budget was only $75m.    For comparison in 2000: Gone In 60 Seconds had a $103m budget, Little Nicky cost $80m , Lucky Numbers cost $65m...

Even Feige (when he was Associate Producer in it) said Fox only greenlighted because to them 75 million was basically a measured bet. If it failed, they wouldn’t have lost the farm.

4 sequels! Would you have preferred it if The Two Towers was a sci-fi comedy instead of a continuation of fellowship?  Avatar will be a saga for the ages, you laugh now but Jim always laughs last.

I feel although if I didn't have comic books MCU to hate I would move on to something else, perhaps Nolan? To be honest MCU films aren't terrible they're mostly serviceable which is what makes them malicious, a formulaic assault on nostalgia.

time to sleep...

Now that you mention nostalgia, it's pretty amazing that MCU has been able to achieve what it has primarily without the use of nostalgia. IW is the first film you could make an argument for nostalgia possibly coming into play, but even then it's mild. Certainly not on the level of things like SW, Disney live action adaptations, or JW. Pretty remarkable in today's nostalgia driven blockbuster industry.

Literally everything has nostalgia these days it seems regardless of how much time has passed. The other week when the MET Gala occurred I saw headlines on some of the entertainment sites all hyped up about a "Fault in Our Stars reunion" (Elgort and Woodley posed for pics together), cause apparently I guess nostalgia for a film that's not even four-years-old is a thing now.

Well that’s the sort of thing I suggesting earlier, so there’s that.

TIH was built in part on nostalgia of the 70s Hulk series....which was their one dud.

unreal 72% jump for Truth or Dare on Saturday.  maybe it capitalized on those matinee shows that were probably vacant on Friday.

A Wrinkle in Time only jumped 56% to 0.061m which is nerve wracking in regards to the 100m domestic countdown.

**that would be fun to see a Saturday/Sunday near sell outs for a matinee of an older running horror film.  I am usually used to Thursday previews, or 10pm shows where you expect audience distraction
