I don't agree that 2008 is weak. Even though I missed some of the movies I would have wanted to see, I still thought it was amongst the stronger years at the top.

I think because of Iron Man, Indiana Jones, and The Dark Knight, a lot of people might have frequented the movies more in 2008 and ignored quality/reviews.  Just a general summoning to the movies year IMO.

anyway i didn't do this because 2008 sucks so bad. next year i think '99 or '89 would be more interesting to do than 2009.

2008 is an odd duck. I think it's pretty top-heavy (Dark Knight and WALL-E are both in my top ten for the 2000s as a whole), then has a whole bunch of movies that are "only" pretty good despite noticeable caveats.

We're under an absolute obligation to do a 1999 countdown next year. Such a crazy-awesome year for movies.

2008 blew my mind with how many of the films seemed interconnected.  So many of the horrors and dramas all dealt with
psychological issues, drug addiction, schitzophrenia,  and more.  It was crazy 'reading' all of that watching through them.
However I probably overread it.  It seemed Dark Knight, Indiana Jones, Wall-E, and Iron Man brought out more then the everyday
moviegoer in 2008, and what was leftover at the end of the awards year just got darker, more isolated, and more looney and confused the hell out of everyone who was asking
where the hell is The Dark Knight?.  It was like the end of the year was the 2008 movie Finals/exams and it just kept layering.
I noticed this year, alot of the movies seem to converge with similar themes too.  As is the history of film, I think.

Here are some of the films I am talking about:

The Eye, Mirrors, One Missed Call, The Lazarus Project, Shutter
X-Files 2, Blindness, The Reader, Changeling, Hellboy 2, The Wrestler, Speed Racer, Deception, In Bruges, The Dark Knight
RockNRolla, Max Payne, Rachel Getting Married, Revolutionary Road, Synechdoche N.Y., Doubt, Benjamin Button
